Background and Purpose of the Position
 
Greenpeace East Asia plans to continue growth in the Hong Kong market whilst also expanding fundraising activity in its recently entered market in Taiwan and launching fundraising in South Korea in 2013. By 2014 total income from the region is projected to reach or exceed Euro 7.5 million, representing an average annual growth rate of 34%.
 
Whilst direct dialogue remains the backbone of regional fundraising expansion plans, an increased focus will be put on digital and lead conversion – particularly within the South Korea launch portfolio.
 
GP East Asia is looking to add to its fundraising leadership team to ensure sufficient senior management capacity to implement this exciting expansion programme.
 
The Deputy Fundraising Director will initially be based in Hong Kong as this is our primary fundraising market currently and will be responsible for this market specifically while proving leadership and strategy advice for Taiwan and South Korea.
 
Direct Reports for the Deputy FRD are approximately 5-7 staff, and total in-house fundraising staff in Hong Kong stands at 15 people excluding Direct Dialogue teams and 26 fundraising staff across the region.
 
The Deputy Fundraising Director supports the Fundraising Director in the delivery and management of the fundraising strategies (Acquisition, and Donor Retention) to maximize long-term financial and public support for Greenpeace East Asia. The Deputy Fundraising Director reports to the Fundraising Director of Greenpeace East Asia.
 
 
Major duties and responsibilities
 
  • Takes the primary lead with the Fundraising Director to deliver the fundraising programs as outlined in the Organizational Development plans for Greenpeace East Asia to increase net revenues and ensure the organization’s long-term financial stability and growth.
  • Motivate, train and support Fundraising staff in order to achieve the income and performance objectives of the department.
  • Devise fundraising and marketing strategies and tactics to generate income, acquire and maintain supporters and to promote a positive institutional brand.
  • In close co-operation with the Programme Department, publish and coordinate a range of publications, video, web as well as other forms of information for marketing and fundraising purposes.
  • Recruit and train staff within the department, evaluate staff work performance and recommend disciplinary action if necessary for staff s/he line-manages. Make sure that staff recruitment and management is in line with GPEA policies. Helps to determine the overall training needs for fundraising staff in conjunction with Fundraising Director.
  • Assists the Fundraising Director as required with the regular financial reporting and budget control of the Fundraising Department and reporting in a timely manner to the Fundraising Director as to the success of program results.

SKILLS
 
1)Leadership and Managerial Skills: to provide advice for the direction of the development and implementation of Greenpeace East Asia’s Fundraising strategies, plans and activities; to share Fundraising knowledge; to direct, guide and motivate fundraising staff.
2)Organizational, Administrative and Time management Skills: to plan, organize and coordinate Fundraising program activities; to address constant and varied demands on the position.
3)Financial Analytical Skills: to coordinate, prepare, monitor, and control program expenditures and overall budget. Interpersonal and Communications Skills: to present complex issues with clarity to a wide variety of audiences.
4)Tact and Enthusiasm: to function effectively within a highly charged atmosphere, able to guide and motivate staff under difficult circumstances.
5)Computer Skills: to prepare various documents and reports; to be able to access information about and/or for Greenpeace.
 
KNOWLEDGE
 
1)Knowledge of Fundraising techniques and strategies: delivery and planning and of Greenpeace East Asia’s Fundraising programmes. Knowledge of large scale fundraising functions, policies, responsibilities, equipment, techniques, and tactics: to train, direct and motivate staff engaged in large scale fundraising activities;
2)Knowledge of financial management, budget preparation, and control: to prepare, monitor and control program budget; to provide input into long term financial and strategic planning.
 
 
DECISION MAKING
 
1)     The position works under the general direction of the Fundraising Director and assumes responsibility for the day-to-day management of Greenpeace Fundraising programmes in GPEA’s fundraising markets. The position demonstrates considerable independence and initiative with respect to decision-making, and provides leadership for the development and implementation of Greenpeace East Asia’s Fundraising plans, strategies, and procedures.
 
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
 
• University graduate, preferably in Business Administration, Marketing or Communications
• At least several years of proven leadership and management in a senior marketing and/or fundraising field preferably in the NGO sector
• Requires cutting edge creative and strategic thinking
• Solid people and financial management skills
• Strong English verbal and written communications skills
• Based in Hong Kong but travelling to overseas is required
 
ADDITIONAL QUALITIES PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED
 
  Good command of Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin)
Sensitive to socio-economic environment of the regions where Greenpeace East Asia operates in
