FSA Senior Associate – Behavioural Psychology

About the FSA
The Financial Services Authority (FSA) is an independent non-governmental body which regulates all providers of financial services in the UK. In 2013, the FSA will become two new authorities: the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA).
EFR
Effective regulation requires a realistic understanding of consumer and firm behaviour. To provide the insights we need, we have an Economics of Financial Regulation (EFR) team in our Policy, Risk and Research Division (PRR) which provides research on key implications for conduct regulation in financial markets from a behavioural science perspective.
Join us and you will have the chance to help shape how behavioural insights get used at a rapidly developing public body – one which has the power to make a profound impact on many people’s lives. Excel and you’ll find there are extensive development opportunities in applied economics, financial services and broader professional skills.
About the role
As a Senior Associate, your goal will be help us make financial services markets function well. You will produce analysis on which we can base our approach by undertaking detailed work on behavioural issues alongside traditional market failures and competition problems. There will also be the opportunity to assist with the design of regulatory remedies, contribute to FCA competition studies and provide advice on behavioural economics across the FCA.
This particular role is likely to involve researching, analysing and testing insights from consumer (and firm) psychology. You will also have the opportunity to train more junior members of the team. Your efforts will play an important role in helping us design more effective regulatory interventions.
About you
An expert in behavioural sciences, you will have the confidence and discipline to deliver in a demanding environment. Your knowledge is based on a degree in Psychology (ideally a postgraduate qualification) plus relevant experience. This will have given you a good understanding of public policy processes. You also have good judgement and crucially, the ability to work across a number of projects simultaneously, in collaboration with your team. With your strong communication skills, you can build working relationships across the board and manage a range of stakeholders.
In return, you’ll receive an excellent benefits package, good work-life balance and the chance to develop your career in a unique organisation.
