General Coordinator FRIDA | The Young Feminist Fund
FRIDA | The Young Feminist Fund. Location: Flexible, to be negotiated with successful candidate.
Closing date: February 25, 2013.
Do you believe in the power of young feminists to change the world? FRIDA | The Young Feminist Fund is in search of a young talented leader to take it to the next stage of its organizational growth.
Overview:
FRIDA | The Young Feminist Fund is a young feminist-led initiative that funds and strengthens the participation and leadership of young feminist activists globally.
FRIDA was created to bring new resources and new opportunities to young women and transgender youth globally. We believe that supporting young feminists is key to the expansion, rejuvenation and sustainability of women’s movements and organizations, both now and in the future. Launched in 2011, with support from AWID and the Central American Women’s Fund, FRIDA has mobilized nearly $270,000 and provided 16 grants in its first participatory round of grant-making to youth-led initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean, The Middle East, Africa, Asia & Pacific and Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
This dynamic leadership position provides an excellent opportunity to lead this new initiative into the next stage of its evolution from initiative to full women’s fund.
Responsibilities:
The General Coordinator is a full time position responsible for providing strategic leadership for all of FRIDA’s core functions: grantmaking, resource-mobilization, communication, capacity-building, networking and alliance-building, as well as for developing FRIDA’s internal operating systems. Given FRIDA’s rapid change and growth, the Coordinator role is also likely to grow and change in the years ahead. The General Coordinator will work with AWID and Central American Women’s Fund as well as FRIDA’s established network of Advisors to shape the Fund’s next phase of growth, including important decisions on FRIDA’s structure and institutional location.
Required Qualifications and Knowledge:
• Aged 35 years or younger
• Knowledge of and networks related to young feminist activism in local, regional, national and/or global contexts
• University degree or related experience in women’s human rights, international development, community development, women’s leadership training, women’s studies or a related social science field
• Knowledgeable about women's human rights at the regional and/or international level
• Knowledgeable about challenges and good practice for multigenerational organizing
• Knowledgeable about strategic grant-making for social change and fundraising for women’s rights initiatives
Required Experience:
• Four or more years of activism with young feminist organizations/initiatives working for women’s rights, including at least 2 years in a leadership role
• Three to five years experience in planning, implementing and managing projects or initiatives led by or about young feminists
• Demonstrated ability and experience in fundraising from institutions and individuals
