The flexibility and versatility of the BBC Concert Orchestra allows it to tackle a wide range of repertoire and enter into innovative collaborations. The house orchestra for BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night Is Music Night for sixty years, the ensemble also broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 and has provided the soundtrack to many BBC TV programmes, including The Blue Planet, Africa, and The Paradise. Engaging with the widest possible range of audiences through live events, broadcast and online content is now an integral part of the BBC CO’s strategy.  This role, whilst focussed on CO Learning activity also will involve working on projects undertaken by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Singers and the Proms.

Role

Reporting to the BBC CO’s General Manager (and managed by CO’s Senior Producer as necessary), the Learning Producer will plan and lead on the Orchestra’s learning and outreach programme and also produce a range of associated content. The Learning Producer will be a member of the CO’s Senior Management Team.  A key aspect of this role will be to seek to integrate as fully as possible, learning and outreach projects within the orchestra’s core activities.  You will be supporting, developing and maintaining the BBC’s Values and Behaviours to create a culture where staff feel informed, valued and empowered to give their best.

Requirements

You'll ideally have some experience of classical or jazz music production or recording.  You will also have some experience of planning and delivering large-scale music projects.  A detailed understanding of music and culture relevant to output including a good knowledge of orchestral repertoire is required.  You will also need a commitment to music education and developing new audiences and have some knowledge of formal and informal education sectors and the lifelong learning agenda.  A broad general knowledge, excellent contacts, and ways of sourcing content for a variety of output is needed along with sound editorial judgement and an appreciation of how audiences use digital media and knowledge of the platforms in use and the importance of metadata.  You will need an enthusiasm for audio and ability to recognise what makes good radio and interactive content, along with practical experience of the techniques of audio production and their use on multiple platforms.
