Position Summary
The objective of the Economics group in the asset is to maximise the value BG obtains from its opportunities within the SEAC region. The team supports the entire value chain through insightful economic analysis, and by ensuring that BG’s valuations are accurate and consistent. It is tasked with providing world class economic services and skills to the rest of the asset and within the SEAC region. The team also aims to continuously improve the economic capabilities of the SEAC team as a whole.
As economics manager, you will be working on some of the most complex and sensitive BG projects. You will lead project evaluations, supervising less experienced analysts and coordinating multi-disciplinary team workflows. You will provide expert economic consultancy across a wide range of projects covering the assessment of business opportunities related to existing operations in Thailand and China, as well as new business development opportunities elsewhere within the SEAC region.
Key Accountabilities
•  HSSE:
-  Ensure that safe practice is adhered to at all times and BG HSSE standards are applied
-  All managers are responsible for ensuring that their team adopt exemplary HSSE behaviors
 
As this position is a Function Critical Role (FCR) the job holder will have certain accountabilities agreed with the Head of Function (HoF) and as set out in the Asset – Function Accountability Standard (AFAS), which are expected to include;
-  Contributing to the delivery of the Business Plan by carrying out functional/asset work in accordance with the BG Internal Control Framework and related standards. Where any compliance gaps to functional standards are identified, plans to address should be developed and dispensations sought where appropriate
-  Accountable for all economic evaluations of upstream, downstream and integrated gas chain projects, including M&A projects which includes ensuring that the economic evaluations are structured appropriately
-  Accountable for the building and maintenance of robust economic cash flow models for projects across the whole gas chain
-  Provide insights and recommendations on project development strategies and optimal direction
-  Accountable for the structuring of economically and financially viable project development schemes including associated risk profiles, for all investment decisions
-  Provide clear recommendations to management on project economics and resolution of questions related to economic evaluations
-  Accountable for Business Plan (in conjunction with Finance), Opportunity Screening, Value Defence and Project Resource Inventory submissions
-  Provide guidance in the formulation and delivery of business development initiatives, regional gas market strategy, market demand and supply analysis, competitor analysis and portfolio analysis
-  Responsible for ensuring compliance with BG Strategy, Planning and Economics (SP&E) standards and BG Value Assurance Framework (VAF)
-  Responsible for the preparation of the SEAC Risk Register, ensuring preparation is in accordance with related BG standards
-  Ensure that submission of papers to BG Executive Committee’s for SEAC region are in accordance with applicable BG standards
-  Establish internal working relationships within the Singapore office, the country offices in the region and with relevant TVP functions required to carry out the role effectively
-  Establish networks with key external stakeholders (advisors, agencies etc) to keep in touch with market conditions/key regional developments etc
Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience Needed: 
- Solid grounding in investment appraisal fundamentals and corporate finance principles. This would necessarily be backed up by broad, "hands-on", experience in the application of different investment evaluation techniques to different sectors and constructs across the gas value chain;
- Significant and direct project experience, ideally in the support of key milestone decisions, e.g., internal VAF gate decision(s), project Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) award, Final Investment Decision (FID), Financial Close;
- Deep experience in building and running complex economic cash flow models for the energy sector, preferably using Excel and / or proprietary applications such as PEEP; and,
- Overall strong grasp of Probability concepts, Risk and Decision Theory, and Financial Mathematics. This would be accompanied by functional experience in the use of specific evaluation tools such as @Risk, Crystal Ball, for the assessment and quantification of project uncertainties.
- Experience in managing a team in delivering against business objectives

Specialist Knowledge / Languages /
 Skills :
- Degree in Economics, Engineering, Geology, Business or Finance;
- Candidates with post graduate qualifications in Economics, Business or Finance would be looked upon favourably;
- Detailed understanding of one or more key business sectors, such as Upstream Exploration & Production, LNG, Power and / or Transmission & Distribution;
- Solid grounding in investment appraisal fundamentals and corporate finance principles. Also required is an overall strong grasp of Probability concepts, Risk and Decision Theory, and Financial Mathematics;
- Good understanding of gas markets and gas value chains; and,
- Understands financial reporting and tax.

Specific attributes important in this role: 
The position is based in Singapore but travel within the SEAC region will be required from time to time.
