Background / General description:
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, is a global investor and advisor committed to promoting projects in its developing member countries that are economically beneficial, financially and commercially sound, and environmentally and socially sustainable. IFC finances private sector investments, mobilizes capital in the international financial markets, helps clients improve social and environmental sustainability, and provides technical assistance and advice to governments and businesses in the developing world. 

IFC is seeking to recruit Senior Investment Officer (IO) for its Infrastructure and Natural Resources Group in the South Asia region. This group is responsible for originating and executing investment transactions in power, transport, gas, mining, telecom and utilities sectors in the South Asia region. Infrastructure is a key priority in the region and IFC is seeking to increase the number of investments both in volume and number in the region, specially but not limited to the Low Income States and the countries outside of India. The Senior IO will be expected to play multiple and varied roles including: project leader of multidisciplinary teams; transaction leader or team member for projects led by other transaction leaders and mentor for less seasoned professionals across various infra subsectors with the ultimate objective of playing a key role in various capacities for up to 5 transactions per year. Business development will be a particular focus – originating transactions and taking them to mandate stage at a minimum. The job will also involve portfolio responsibilities. The job holder will be based in Delhi. Regional travel will be required.
Duties and Accountabilities:
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

•Develop a strong pipeline of good quality investment opportunities through anticipating market trends and employing sector/country knowledge; 

•Evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close new transactions, portfolio restructurings, 

rescheduling, capital increases, equity sales, etc., 

•Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions; 

•Lead negotiation/documentation teams; use strong negotiation skills to develop solutions and overcome impasses in straightforward and complex transactions 

•Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, global and regional private businesses, banking and multilateral partners and government officials to further develop the sector and to develop specific investment opportunities 

•Lead and manage project teams, mentor and develop junior staff; 

•Collaborate in developing sector and/or regional strategies and support related promotion work, including targeting potential investments and policy advisory work 

•Coordinate closely with social, environmental, and technical assistance colleagues in order to add value to our clients' businesses, find pragmatic solutions to the specific sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impact.
Selection Criteria:
• At least 10-12 years experience in finance with a proven track-record of sourcing, structuring and closing investments. Strong experience in one or more infrastructure sub sectors. ideally in an international investment bank, commercial bank or private equity firm with an active infrastructure and natural resources practice



• Knowledge of overall industry sector trends, experience in emerging markets a plus 

• Strong business development, structuring and client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on clients needs effectively; 

• Strong track record of negotiating complex transactions including those involving capital markets/use of structured finance products. 

Strong financial and credit skills; demonstrated ability to structure a variety of complex financial instruments (debt and equity).

• Sound business judgment in identifying potential business partners

• Ability to interact directly and independently with the senior management of potential clients, of financial and technical partners as well as senior government officials 

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

• Ability to mentor junior investment staff 

• Highly motivated, committed to highest ethical standards

• Willingness to travel extensively in the region
