The University of Johannesburg invites suitably qualified individuals to apply for the following executive positions, on a 5-year renewable contract basis:

The Executive Director: Advancement reports to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Internationalisation, Advancement and Student Affairs, and is a member of the Executive Leadership Group of the University of Johannesburg. The primary responsibility of the Executive Director is to lead the Division, which consists of Marketing and Brand Management, Student Marketing, Strategic Partnerships, Arts and Culture and Communication Services, with a particular focus on fundraising and alumni mobilisation.

The incumbent will be required to:
• Determine, articulate, implement and lead the Division’s strategic initiatives in accordance with the University’s strategic goals in order to enhance and support teaching, research, community engagement and internationalisation
• Conceptualise and coordinate strategic initiatives relating to partnerships; communications; alumni and community engage-ment; marketing and branding; student marketing; arts and culture
• Sustain national and international partnerships and collabora-tions, strengthen relationships with stakeholders and partners
• Promote the UJ brand and support engaged alumni focusing on brand stature as well as reputational and resource contribution
• Ensure sustained excellence of community engagement
• Develop and implement a communications strategy in accordance with UJ’s 2020 vision
• Promote student marketing and arts and culture through co-ordinated strategic interventions
• Promote the Division in broader national and international contexts
• Oversee staff development and management (including retention and recruitment)
• Ensure high-quality divisional governance, administration and systems functioning
• Ensure the effective and efficient management and utilisation of the Division’s finances and resources
• Respond to advancement-related policy documents of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), draft proposals and reports and initiate policy
• Manage risks within the portfolio

Requirements:
• Substantive advancement stature, with a Master’s qualification or equivalent as a minimum academic qualification
• Sound knowledge of, insight into and a vision of the Higher Education sector
• In-depth understanding of current national and international debates around approaches to Fundraising, Alumni Mobilisa-tion, Marketing and Brand Management
• Significant management experience and high-level administra-tive skills, along with the ability to develop and maintain good human relations
• A well-respected leader who is able to attract and motivate the academic community, students, alumni and external stakeholders in the University’s drive to provide best practice marketing, branding and communication practices
