Director, International Housing Programs , Atlanta, GA, USA


Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is currently recruiting a skilled and savvy professional to fill the role of Director - International Housing Programs. Working closely with the Senior Director of Global Program Design and Implementation and the Vice President of Global Program Development, this position oversees the development and evaluation of international housing programs and strategies. This position will serve as a subject matter expert in the field of housing support services, urban and human settlement, and community organizing and development. This position will work collaboratively with other headquarters functions such as housing finance, disaster risk reduction and response, program design, monitoring and evaluation, and volunteer mobilization to ensure all elements of HFHI's international housing programs are integrated effectively.
This position will also oversee the communication of program successes and final product to all internal and external stakeholders; and participate in HFHI and external networks to promote best practices relating to construction, attainment of secure tenure and other housing interventions. Facilitating global "communities of practice" and global leadership teams as appropriate to assemble and disseminate learning and innovation as well as ensuring that all programs are aligned with organizational principles and values are also key elements of this job.
The Director - International Housing Programs will be based in Atlanta, GA and may require travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
Responsibilities include:
*PROMOTE AND IMPLEMENT HOUSING SUPPORT SERVICES Lead the development and implementation of housing support services - including conceptualization, promotion, training, monitoring and evaluation. Assure that the organization's housing interventions meet quality construction standards, and convening and supporting "communities of practice" to advance the housing support services strategic initiative.
*DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT URBAN-FOCUSED INITIATIVES Lead the organization's efforts to design housing solutions that are appropriate in urban settings, including networking with global housing entities working in urban contexts, building capacity of HFH entities to work in urban settings, convening and supporting an internal urban-focused "Community of Practice", and evaluating the effectiveness of the organization's urban interventions.
*COMMUNITY ORGANIZING AND DEVELOPMENT Advance the approach taken by Habitat for Humanity practitioners in community organizing and community development, participate in external networks of community development entities, and build the capacity for HFH entities to implement community development practices and methods. Contribute to the process of assessing the outcomes of Habitat for Humanity’s efforts in achieving community transformation.
*RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT Assist the organization in soliciting financial support from institutional donors, including cultivation of various bi-lateral and multi-lateral aid agencies, proposal writing, program management and reporting, and conducting evaluations and program assessments. Network with other NGOs and investigate opportunities for collaboration and contracting with private sector entities and NGOs engaged in international housing and community development efforts.
*PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT Supervise the Senior Specialist - International Housing Programs as well as possible supervisory responsibilities over other positions, volunteers and interns.
REQUIREMENTS:
*Bachelor’s degree, preferably in architecture, urban planning, construction technology, project management, or similar technical discipline. *7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in management, evaluation and introduction of new and innovative housing solutions targeted to low-income populations and communities, and/or urban and community development methodologies. *1-2 years of supervisory experience, including experience working with and managing collaborative, cross-functional teams. *Experience working in multiple environments, including international settings in lower-income contexts. *Experience with shelter methods in various areas of the world.
*Understanding of local challenges to obtaining secure tenure domestically and internationally. *Experience collaborating with bi- and multi-lateral donors and understanding their requirements. *Strong verbal and written communications skills.
