Grants & Contracts Intern

Start Date:    March 2013
Job Duration:   3 months with potential to extend,  15-20 hours per week

I. TECHNOSERVE BACKGROUND

II. POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Grants and Contracts Department is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic individual who is passionate about international economic development to support a broad range of functions in the department.  The volunteer’s primary responsibility will be to work on the content development, writing, editing, and design, for the contracts intranet page.  Additionally, the volunteer may be asked to develop presentations to use in future trainings and for delivery of other policy information. He/she will be responsible for updating and organizing the independent contractor database. Other duties may be assigned. 
The volunteer can gain valuable exposure to international development donors and donor regulations, understand grant and contract award management, and recognize the role of compliance in business operations.  The volunteer will have an opportunity to meet other TechnoServe staff and liaise with other departments. This person will report to the Director of Grants and Contracts.
The position is office-based in Washington, DC and does not lend itself to working remotely.

III. REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Enthusiastic self-starter; proven ability to work independently
  • Maintain professional demeanor in handling confidential and sensitive material
  • Highly organized and able to juggle multiple tasks
  • Excellent communication, editing and writing skills
  • Polished skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
