We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, self-motivated, and service-orientated professional for the position of Multimedia Communications Specialist for the Corporate Communications Department.

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT®, is a not-for-profit research and training organization with partners in over 100 countries. Please refer to our website for more information:www.cimmyt.org.

The selected candidate will report to the Communications and Social Media Officer, and will support CIMMYT’s new digital media strategy by developing state-of-the art multi-media content/products to engage and influence an international community of organizations and individuals concerned with global food security issues. This will include interactive multimedia products combining photos, audio, video, and graphic elements.

The position will be based at CIMMYT’s Main Campus (located 45 km northeast of Mexico City, Mexico) but will interact with all CIMMYT´s experimental stations and regional office (country and world-wide) on a regular basis.

Specific responsibilities of this position will include:
  • Develop high-impact multimedia content and tools for use by research leaders, senior management, fundraisers, and corporate communications in presenting and promoting CIMMYT’s work to research partners, donors, NGO’s and policy makers.
  • Manage internal/external resources (including contracted providers) to deliver a sustainable program of multimedia content adapted to each of CIMMYT’s target communities.
  • Manage all production phases, from pre-production to post production to delivery:

    • Develop the project concept using a creative brief and advising internal clients on what forms of media are   most appropriate.
    • Direct the creation of individual elements that will make up the final product (video shoots, graphics and voice-overs).
    • Finalize products combining all project elements (video, audio, graphics and photos) into a releasable product on-line or off-line (CR-rom, DVD, Web, etc.).
    • Develop and maintain workflow systems (digital asset management, storage, sharing, web/social media integration, delivery, etc.)


We are seeking candidates with the following qualification, skills and attitudes:
Essential

  • Native-speaker mastery of written and spoken English, including demonstrated experience in scriptwriting and storyboarding in English.
  • 3 to 5 years multimedia production experience with an international, advocacy-driven organization. Demonstrated experience managing concurrent multimedia projects, cultivating and managing external providers, and adhering to production schedules and budgets.
  • Ability to translate scientific projects into compelling stories and to explain technical breakthroughs accurately in lay terms.

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Digital Media or related discipline.
  • Experience engaging with and developing materials for Web/social media campaigns.
  • Experience living and working in developing country contexts.
  • Ability to translate strategy into a strict creative brief with internal clients.
  • Advanced knowledge of Macintosh computer. Well versed in non-linear video editing and basics of video production.
  • Good level of attention to detail, client-orientation and personable, diplomatic approach to deal with people at all levels.
  • Knowledge of Spanish.
  • Ability to work with different nationalities, under pressure and as a member of diverse work team.
