Background
NSA International is an international NGO, based in the Netherlands, focusing on youth empowerment through sports. Youth in the most disadvantaged and (post-)conflict areas in the world are marginalized from development opportunities. Absence of sustainable employment, deteriorating environmental and health conditions, social inequality, and lack of education and health services make this group vulnerable to not only continuing, but also reinforcing the cycle of poverty in successive generations. NSA International believes that sport plays a unique role in creating and enhancing development opportunities for youth. It is committed to using the powerful contribution of sport to mobilize, access, address, educate and activate youth to advance their development.NSA International has been supporting sport for peace and development programmes since 1998. Currently, focal countries include Burkina Faso, Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya, Mali, South Sudan, Surinam and Uganda.
Job summary
The Project Leader Sport for Development (PL-SFD) is part of the NSA International team in the Netherlands and responsible for:
- Management of country programmes in one or more focal countries of NSA International
- Management and facilitation of workshops and conferences
- Business development
- Institutional fundraising
The PL-SFD participates as an active member of the team to ensure appropriate content and high quality of NSA International’s programmes. This includes involvement in designing NSA International’s implementation strategies, safeguarding the quality of the programmes and putting into practice to NSA International’s principles and values. The PL-SFD represents NSA International in external meetings and coordination platforms and liaises with professional counterparts in (inter)national organisations and government ministries.
An important part of the PL-SFD’s time will go to the development, preparation and implementation of new programmes and business cases. NSA International is a young and growing organization that aims to broaden its programme portfolio in the coming years.
The PL-SFD will play a pivotal role in realizing this ambition through institutional fundraising, developing new activities and business models. The PL-SFD reports to the General Director and the Programmes Director. The role requires travelling to NSA International’s programme countries.
Profile
A relevant bachelor’s and preferably master’s in development cooperation, (sports) management or other relevant field. Or extensive relevant work experience in lieu of a graduate degree;
- Minimum five years’ experience supporting (sports for) development programmes within an (I)NGO (in the field);
- Proven technical expertise and up to date with best practices and global developments in the field of (sports for) development cooperation;
- An entrepreneurial, proactive and creative spirit and personality
- Ability to create innovative and alternative solutions;
- Proven advisory and facilitating skills;
- Experience in supporting, training and coaching volunteers and junior staff and partner organisations;
- Experience in networking with professional counterparts including governmental counterparts;
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative M&E tools related to (sports for) development cooperation;
- Effective written and oral communication skills in both Dutch and English. Communication skills in French are considered an advantage;
- Strong strategical, analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Stress resilient – able to cope with deadlines and multitasking;
- Well organised and flexible with the ability to work independently and take on additional responsibilities when required.

Planning
