Associate Provost for Knowledge Transfer
The University invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Provost for Knowledge Transfer (AP-KT).  This is a newly established position at the University.

The Role
Since its inception, the University has built a substantial Knowledge Transfer (KT) infrastructure covering collaborative research, contract research, consultancies, IP management, technology licensing, executive education, continuing education, professional training, business incubation and entrepreneurship.  Reporting to the Executive Vice-President & Provost, the Associate Provost for Knowledge Transfer (AP-KT) will be charged to strategically take the KT endeavors of the University to its next level.  By drawing reference to international trends and best practices in the fast-changing technological and business environment, the AP-KT is expected to provide leadership to set in place the impetus, infrastructure and support to drive the University's KT development, building links between research and businesses that provide innovative industrial and business solutions on the one hand, and that further expand the University's research and technological capabilities and provide partnering opportunities for faculty and students on the other hand.  In addition, the AP-KT will oversee the university's efforts to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit and preparations for our students. The AP-KT will directly oversee the Technology Transfer Center and the Entrepreneurship Center, and will represent the University in the HKUST RandD Corporation Ltd, the University's wholly owned commercial arm.  The appointee will also oversee the University's industry research collaboration/alliances and its commercialization activities in Mainland China when opportunities arise.  Included in the array of duties will be to identify intellectual strength and harvest intellectual products, promote and protect intellectual property, strengthen entrepreneurship endeavor to enhance innovation and creativity, and create an open knowledge transfer platform to generate financial and administrative support for innovation, commercialization, and related knowledge transfer opportunities.
The Candidate
Applicants should have an advanced academic or professional degree, and possess a combination of business knowledge/connections and technological experience, along with some understanding of, and experience in, an academic environment.  Understanding and knowledge of the latest trends of KT policies and infrastructure, experience in IP and licensing as well as business incubation especially in connection with industries in Hong Kong and the Mainland are expected.  Also important would be the candidate's experience in dealing with Mainland China's research and industrial base.  Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, and the public and private sectors is a must.
