Civil Society Manager - Strengthening Civil Society and Media

FHI 360’s Civil Society and Peacebuilding Department (CSPD) supports citizens to mobilize effectively to influence policy, improve lives, and build peace. CSPD works with civil society to increase its credibility, visibility and effectiveness by building its capacity to:
• Engage with local government to increase its responsiveness to citizen needs;
• Solve community problems, engage youth in civic affairs, and provide needed services to citizens;
• Advocate for social justice, democratic reforms, human rights, and effective policies,
• Produce media, including online, radio, and television content, to promote social dialogue and tolerance; and
• Promote peaceful solutions to conflict and support peace negotiations.
Position Description: FHI 360’s Civil Society and Peacebuilding Department (CSPD) is currently recruiting for the position of Civil Society Manager for an anticipated USAID-funded Strengthening Civil Society and Media in Burma Program. The civil society component of this program will strengthen the organizational capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs); establish CSO networks to increase peer-to-peer capacity building; strengthen the ability of CSOs to monitor government performance and to influence the direction of public policy. S/he shall also interact with senior government officials, donors, and other key stakeholders in capacity building where these initiatives are implemented. The position is contingent on funding.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Provide overall leadership for the design and implementation of activities in areas such as advocacy, CSO organizational capacity development, establishing CSO networks, and CSO training in government monitoring and influencing public policy;
• Oversee the technical, administrative, and logistical preparations for all trainings and capacity building interventions;
• Design capacity building interventions and trainings, including recruit trainers as needed;
• Provide hands-on substantive guidance on technical issues related to capacity building interventions;
• Support the establishment of CSO networks to increase peer-to-peer capacity building;
• Work closely with and report to the Chief of Party and other program staff to ensure civil society activities comply with FHI 360 and USAID rules and regulations;
• Contribute to written project performance reports, and ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of civil society activities; and Mentor and manage local staff and implementing partners to build their technical and administrative capacities.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field; advanced degree preferred;
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience designing and implementing civil society or organizational capacity-building activities is required;
• Minimum eight (8) years of overall civil society project management experience is required;
• Solid knowledge of the Burmese civil society sector is required;
• Preference given to candidates who demonstrate a strong emphasis on advocacy campaigns, influencing public policy and monitoring government performance, and gender equity;
• Knowledge of USAID regulations is preferable;
• English and Burmese proficiency required; and
• Proficiency in Shan, Karen languages, Rohingya, or other local languages is highly desired.
