For its Civilian workforce, Headquarters Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (The Netherlands), is currently recruiting a (m/f):
POLITICAL ADVISOR (POLAD), NATO Grade A-6
Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) is a 4-star led deployable joint HQ capable to execute effective Command and Control over an assigned NATO Joint Task Force. The POLAD advises the Commander (COM) directly.
The POLAD provides information and advice on a wide range of politico-military (Pol-Mil) issues in direct support of the COM’s policy formulation and decision-making. (S)he establishes and maintains situational awareness on diplomatic and Pol-Mil issues of ongoing NATO operations and assists the COM in interfacing with political, diplomatic, non-governmental, academic and other civilian organizations. (S)he maintains the necessary diplomatic and professional contacts enabling the COM to execute the Direction and Guidance of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR). - Co-ordinates policy matters that require political and/or military decisions with HQ senior staff and liaison officers, Allied Command Operations Headquarters, as well as governmental and embassy staffs at Ministerial and Ambassadorial level. POLAD provides specific country experience and knowledge to COM/COS. (S)he distributes information in respect of all affairs of interest laterally and vertically to POLADs.
As head of the POLAD office, (s)he manages and leads a team of 5 military officers and 2 non-commissioned officers. The team can be augmented with additional military and/or civilian personnel.
The incumbent may be required to undertake temporary deployments in support of military operations and exercises, and/or duty travel, both within and without NATO boundaries.

When deployed the POLAD advises and supports the COM and the Command Group in organising and conducting coordination with Host Nation authorities and international authorities (such as UN administration and/or force and international organizations).
The ideal candidate must:
- hold a Masters Degree or equivalent in international relations, political science, public administration or related discipline
- have 10 years practical experience in the field of diplomacy and/or international affairs with an emphasis on pol-mil matters
- be experienced working within international/multi-national organizations
- have previous political analytical experience
- have extensive experience in providing high-level political, policy and strategic advice
- have full understanding of transatlantic Pol-Mil relations and issues
- have detailed knowledge of NATO policies, priorities, and campaigns especially in crisis and post-conflict situations
- be a skilled writer/editor and communicator in multi-national / multi-cultural settings.

- be able to communicate in English confidently (minimum level required: “Very Good” : Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing)
Selection of candidates for NATO International Civilian posts is based upon the merit principle. Applications can only be accepted from NATO nation citizens.
Contract:
Starting 1 January 2015, a 3 year definite duration contract, including a 6-months probationary period, will be offered to the selected candidate. On the expiry of this contract, if the organisation wishes to retain the services of the staff member concerned, a new contract will be offered.
