Field Assistant Internship: Environment And Climate Regional Accession Network (ECRAN)

Our clients are the European Commission and other International Financial Institutions, on whose behalf we are implementing economic, institutional and capacity development projects in all regions of the world at international, national, regional and local levels. We carry out economic, institutional and capacity development projects within a country’s public administration in a range of sectors, including Environment, Energy, Infrastructure, Agriculture, Economy & Regulation, Education, Health, Justice and Public Financial Management.

We are recruiting a Field Assistant to work as an intern on the project: Environment and Climate Regional Accession Network (ECRAN), Belgrade, for 3-6 months. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Project Background

ECRAN (Environment and Climate Regional Accession Network), financed by EU and managed by the European Commission, assists the beneficiaries in exchange of information and experience related to preparation for accession.

ECRAN is strengthening regional cooperation between EU candidate countries and potential candidates in the fields of environment and climate action and assists their progress in the transposition and implementation of the EU Environmental and Climate Acquis.

ECRAN builds on experience gained and results achieved by the RENA (Regional Environmental Network for Accession) in particular those related to environmental and climate investments, transposition and implementation of environmental and climate law, compliance and enforcement, local and regional initiatives, climate action, water management, waste management, air quality, industrial emissions, nature protection, EIA/SEA, NGO support and public participation. Activities under each component are implemented through a system of working groups as follows:

Environment Work Group: Strategic planning and investments, water management, environmental assessments, air quality, waste management, nature protection, IED/chemicals
Climate Action Working Groups: climate policy development and building climate awareness, GHG inventory systems and the EU Monitoring Mechanism Regulation, emissions trading, adaptation
Cross-cutting Working Groups for both environment and climate components: enforcement and compliance, public participation-NGO’s Environment forum
Job Description

The Field Assistant will provide assistance to the ECRAN Secretariat based in Belgrade in the following areas:

Research of relevant policies and best practice documents and collection of relevant data
Screening and updating relevant information on bi-lateral and multi-lateral donor activities and other related initiatives
Drafting of background documents and provision of support in drafting technical reports
Provision of support to the project team during field missions (site visits, workshops, conferences etc.) including preparatory work and follow-up
Provision of support in establishing and monitoring unified reporting and visibility
Other tasks will include:

Preparing letters or translations as needed
Editing and formatting documents
Identifying past or on-going technical assistance projects (funded by EC, USAID, WB, SIDA, CIDA, DFID, etc.) in related fields and finding information on experts working on these projects
Updating the database with new CVs
Other tasks as indicated
 
Expertise:
Excellent research and drafting skills are required, with excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of languages of beneficiary countries, i.e. Western Balkans countries and Turkey is considered an advantage.

 
Education:
The Field Assistant should have a university degree in environmental studies, natural resource management or similar related studies. Knowledge of issues related to transposition, implementation and enforcement of the relevant EU Environmental and Climate Acquis will be considered an asset.

 

The successful candidate will receive a stipend of €300 per month. For international postings, a stipend for flights and accommodation will be provided. The successful candidate will receive 2 weeks training in Vienna in preparation for the role.
