ABA ROLI Europe and Eurasia Research and Outreach Intern

ABA ROLI is a non-profit program that implements legal reform programs in over 60 countries around the world. ABA ROLI has an annual budget of over $40 million andnearly 700 professional staff working abroad and in its Washington, D.C. office. ABA ROLI’s host country partners include judges, lawyers, bar associations, law schools, court administrators, legislatures, ministries of justice and a wide array of civil society organizations.
JOB SUMMARYE&E Research and Outreach Intern
Interns for the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) will work with program staff of their assigned region to gain an understanding of international development programs and international rule of law issues.
ABA ROLI is seeking a part-time unpaid research and outreach intern for its Europe and Eurasia Division based in Washington, D.C. for the fall of 2015.
Although this is an unpaid position, interns at ABA ROLI are eligible for a wide variety of perks and learning opportunities including:
  • Transportation reimbursement up to $12.00/day
  • Field trips to D.C. legal destinations such as the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Supreme Court, and Library of Congress
  • Brown-bag lunches with ABA ROLI staff and guest speakers
****RESPONSIBILITIES****
Exact responsibilities will vary based on each division’s needs. Typical responsibilities could include, but are not limited to:
  • Completing relevant research projects on topics such as human rights and rule of law
  • monitoring the political and security situation in countries in the portfolio;
  • Drafting/editing outreach pieces
****QUALIFICATIONS****
  • Undergraduate, graduate, or law school student with background in international relations/development, political science, or related field
  • Excellent writing, research, and communication skills;
  • Strong work ethic; and
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Prior international development or rule of law development experience preferred
  • Ability to commit 15-20 hours per week
