Research Assistant, Global Health

The Center for Global Development, an independent, non-partisan research organization in Washington, DC, seeks a Research Assistant to support the work of a Senior Associate in Global Health. The successful candidate will have strong analytical, writing and communication skills.

General Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Associate, the successful candidate will perform a range of activities including policy research and analysis in global health & development, and other duties including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in tracking and monitoring developments in the U.S. Global Health Initiative; draft blogs and short papers on pertinent GHI analysis; attend and report back on meetings and events related to U.S. global health engagement.
  • Conduct research on the determinants of maternal mortality decline in the developing world. This includes data gathering and analysis on specific countries, assisting with a possible working group to provide recommendations to donors and countries to accelerate progress towards the MDG5 Target on maternal mortality.
  • Conduct research on women and small and medium enterprise as a development strategy.
    • Perform literature and data searches as needed.
    • Collaborate on writing papers, articles and blogs as needed.
  • Assist in the coordination and general operations of the IDRC Fellowship;
    • Assist with other basic administrative tasks.
    • Carry out additional tasks as needed

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field (global health, economics, international development)
  • 1-2 years professional experience in the global health or other related field
  • Quantitative analytical skills (coursework in economics/research methods and analysis ideal)
  • Experience working with data and knowledge of statistical software (STATA)
  • Outstanding communication and writing skills in English
  • Attention to detail and ability to be extremely organized
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confidence and can-do attitude

Study or work experience in a developing country a plus
