Grade 7: £29,099 - £35,788 with a discretionary range to £39,107 p.a.

The University of Oxford is looking to appoint a Linux Systems Administrator to manage information systems for the Worldwide Antimalarial Resistance Network (WWARN), a global research collaboration working to improve malaria control through sharing of scientific data. This position is based at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford, Headington, Oxford.

This role has overall responsibility for all of the servers and applications deployed for WWARN. This includes public-facing web applications as well as secure applications for sharing and analysing scientific data. Duties primarily include; configuration, deployment and administration of Linux servers (Ubuntu and RHEL), but also some work with databases (MySQL), application servers (Tomcat), web servers (Apache) and web content management systems (Drupal).

You will have a good Bachelor degree in software engineering or in a similar related discipline such as computer science and have experience of Linux operating systems administration, ideally both Red Hat/Fedora and Ubuntu/Debian.

The position is funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and is fixed-term until 31 December 2012 in the first instance.
