The Atlantic Council is seeking a talented, dynamic individual to assist with the execution and development of projects and programs within the fast-expanding Program on International Security (which later this year will transform into the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security).

The Assistant Director will report to the Deputy Directors and Director of the Program on International Security and will assist in the Council’s expanding programming on defense policy and industry and regional issues such as Middle East security.

The Assistant Director of the Program on International Security will play a central role in developing and organizing program activities including: high-level speaker series, policy workshops, conferences, strategy sessions, task forces, coordinating publications and other initiatives. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with other directorates within the Program on International Security, as well as with other Programs and Centers at the Council, particularly the Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East. The strongest candidate will be familiar with security issues in the Middle East and will have a background in defense issues, including defense policy, systems, and industry.

The successful candidate will have broad knowledge and understanding of critical issues in international security and defense and will be able to work on a diverse range of issues.

The ideal candidate will show strong attention to detail, will write and communicate clearly and effectively, and will work well individually and as part of a team. She or he will be an intellectual entrepreneur capable of identifying new project ideas, potential sources of funding, and innovative ways of addressing critical issues in international security. The incumbent will be expected to show strong managerial skills of budgets and program interns. Candidates should be well-organized and able to juggle multiple tasks in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment.

The Atlantic Council’s Program on International Security provides thought leadership on NATO and transatlantic security, defense, Strategic Foresight, Cyber Statecraft, and critical regional issues like Mid East security and Asian security.
