Assessment Consultant for a project in Sierra Leone
Medicines du Monde the Netherlands (Dokters van de Wereld) is an international medical organization that provides (access to) medical aid to vulnerable populations worldwide. As part of its mandate MdM conducts reconstructive surgery mission “Operation Sourire” (OPS) since 1989 in support of forgotten populations in collaboration with partners in Africa and Asia. Operation Sourire has a twofold objective: to carry out surgical operations and to train national staff.
For our project in Sierra Leone we are looking for an Assessment Consultant
4 weeks, as per 1 May 2012
MdM Netherlands has selected Sierra Leone to conduct surgical camps “Operation Sourire” for 2012-2015. Complementary to this short term mission MdM NL would like to explore the possibilities for a long term intervention in Sierra Leone with specific focus on Mother and Child health care.
In December 2011 a first orientation mission has been made in which potential target areas and partners have been identified. In support of the further design of a program outline MdM Netherlands is recruiting an assessment consultant for 4 weeks to conduct an exploration mission in 3 area: Kabala, Makeni and Masanga.
Description of responsibilities
• Assess and define a partnership model with MdM Spain regarding the project in the Kabala area
• Assess possibilities for long term interventions with OPS partner hospitals in Makeni and Masanga
• Conduct a (rapid) needs assessment among target area in relation to Mother and child health care services and needs (community based and service based)
• Conduct a mapping of relevant stakeholders in the target area
• Conduct a capacity assessment of the selected partners
• Meet and orientate with key partners (non) governmental actors and officials
• Design the project plan 2013-2015 (including logframe and budget)
• Formulate the mission report
Profile
• You have a Public health and/or medical degree (doctor, midwife preference)
• You have a minimum of 3 years clinical experience and 3-5 years experience in working in a development aid setting,
• You are familiar with the African context and programs, Mother and Child health and HIV/ AIDS programs
• You have strong skills in conducting assessments, project proposal writing and budget formulation
• You have experience in partnership development
We Offer
A challenging independent position in an international setting.
You will receive a field volunteer contract by MDM the Netherlands/Dokters van de Wereld.
In accordance with the organizations’ goals we offer a moderate but fair compensation (according to the general Médecins du Monde terms & conditions for International Volunteers) including a full insurance package and reimbursement of international travelling and accommodation costs.
You will be based in the guesthouse of partner hospitals and / or MdM Spain.
