POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Participate in activities of identification and assessment of new opportunities in support of acreage capture; assist with the mapping and editing of structural surfaces necessary for 3D basin modeling; collect, QC, and integrate available data into the basin models including geophysical, geological, petrophysical, geochemical, well logs, and well and production data; perform deterministic and probabilistic estimations of hydrocarbon expulsion volumes, migration efficiencies and trapped volumes based on basin modeling outputs; use independent judgment in the integration of diverse data types from multiple sources to develop maps for source presence, type and source maturity, as well as Common Risk Segment maps for region; influence the assessment of new technology and methodologies within petroleum systems and basin modeling disciplines; provide input into management on petroleum systems and basin modeling software, technology, workflows, and best practices; independently build and calibrate appropriate Basin Models for Eastern Region asset teams; collaborate with asset team members and relevant specialists to ensure that Basin Modeling work is fully integrated and in conformance with documented technical standards; ensure that teams have access to the basin models that will forward their projects in a timely fashion; support the application of Basin Modeling techniques throughout the BHP Billiton Petroleum's business; establish and maintain and Eastern Hemisphere basin modeling database with calibration data and simulation parameters; maintain liaison with software providers, industry User Groups and academic programs to help ensure that BHP Billiton Petroleum remains at the competitive edge; participate in assurance processes of Peer Assists and Peer Reviews; and participate in training and development to ensure that professional competencies continue to build and broaden.

REQUIREMENTS:

Employer will accept a Master's or foreign equivalent in Geoscience or Reservoir Engineering plus five years experience in the upstream petroleum industry. Experience must include three years performing basin modeling in multiple basins and geological environments using Temis 1D, 2D and 3D, MPath, Trinity, T3 and Genesis software packages and one year working in a petroleum research organization(s) working on developing new technologies and workflows to help solve problems or better understand subjects related to petroleum exploration. Experience must also include integrating petroleum systems and basin modeling data types and analysis as applied to risking and uncertainty, petroleum geochemistry and exploration processes from play fairways to prospect maturation, volumetric and risk assessment and the synthesis of diverse regional datasets, using GoCad as an auxiliary tool for basin modeling and editing, and managing basin modeling projects.
