Medical Research Council - University of Glasgow - Centre for Virus Research (CVR)

Fixed Term for 2 years

HCV Research UK is a new venture, funded by a £2 million grant from the Medical Research Foundation. The project brings together 25 leading hepatologists in the UK and will be led by the MRC - University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR). A key objective of HCV Research UK is to create a biorepository of clinical samples from a national cohort of HCV-infected patients. This facility will be based at the CVR with satellite storage centres in Nottingham, Oxford and Birmingham.

An opportunity exists for two individuals to join the project to provide research support. The main purpose of the posts will be to process samples for the biorepository under the supervision of our Biobank Manager. There will also be an opportunity to perform genotyping assays on nucleic acid isolated from samples.

A Degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline is essential together with experience in asceptic techniques and basic molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid preparation and PCR amplification. Previous experience of handling samples infected with HCV or other blood-borne pathogens and in host genotyping methods would be advantageous.

Starting salary for these Band 5 posts will depend on experience and likely to be in the range £20,074 to £23,056 per annum, pro rata. The posts are fixed term for two years.
