The successful candidate will provide assistance to the Senior Manager – National Programs Relations (NPR) on technical matters pertaining to the conduct of Farmer household surveys and monitoring & evaluation studies. S/he will oversee the implementation of survey and evaluation activities and submit reports as required. The position is for the DA-BAR funded “Enhancing Knowledge Exchange and Decision-Making Among Rice Stakeholders through the Development and Promotion of Location-Specific Rice Knowledge Products and Delivery Systems” project..
This Professional Service (PS) position is for a nine (9) month contract (or until 31 December 2012).
Duties
• Assist supervisor in planning, conduct and supervision of farm household surveys and related monitoring and evaluation activities
• Establish databases for training data, household baseline surveys and other monitoring and evaluation data
• Encode survey results and other documentation data into established database/s.
• Conduct survey data cleaning, verification and validation to ensure data quality.
• Maintain the survey data set in a format that is ready for further processing and analysis.
• Conduct applicable statistical operations and analysis using SPSS and/or other applicable statistical packages in support of project monitoring and evaluation activities, especially household baseline survey.
• Assist in the writing of technical reports and research papers for journal publications.
• Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the assistant scientist supervisor from time to time.
Qualification requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics or any Social Science degree with strong quantitative research focus, preferably having a postgraduate degree from a recognized university.
• Preferably two to three years research experience on household survey research.
• Preferably with background on Adult Education and Training
• Adept at using available statistical packages (e.g. SPSS, STATA) in addition to being proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, and database-construction related software/programs.
• Good command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of Filipino language/s other than Tagalog is an advantage.
• Capable and willing to live in remote areas and work with poor farming communities; ability to work under pressure in a multicultural work environment and be willing to undertake frequent travels to rural areas.
