Senior Legal Advisor Milieu Ltd Brussels

Milieu Ltd is a dynamic consulting firm based in Brussels striving for excellence in international and European policy and law – primarily with respect to environmental protection but also in such fields as fundamental rights, public health, consumer protection and health and safety. We provide our expertise mainly for European institutions and other public sector clients.

Milieu is seeking to recruit additional senior legal advisors to compliment our team of dedicated and motivated professionals and to maintain our continued growth. They will be expected to become involved in the process of developing our business and participate proactively as part of the management team.

Key tasks will include the following:

• Leadership of complex legal research and analysis projects, including overall quality assurance;
• Management of projects to deadline and quality objectives while ensuring that budgets are met;
• Provision of guidance and support to teams of legal experts etc;
• Provision of substantive assistance in conceptualising and writing project reports to ensure high quality deliverables to meet the client’s needs;
• Support for business development, including meeting with clients and preparation of proposals;
• Mentoring and development of in-house junior lawyers;
• Contribute towards the strategic vision of the business.

Key qualifications for the position

• Masters level law degree, preferably with an EU law specialisation;
• Minimum 10 years prior work experience. Experience of working with EU legislation essential;
• Background in at least one of the following fields: environmental protection, climate change, fundamental rights a very strong advantage;
• Familiarity with policy analysis approaches, including regulatory impact assessment, an advantage;
• An independent, self-starter personality with a sense of humour;
• Strong organisational skills;
• Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of other EU languages strongly desirable;
• Good writing skills.
