System Engineer- Chennai,

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, is the largest multilateral provider of financing for private enterprise in developing countries. The Corporate Business Technologies Department (CBT) is the Information Technology department within IFC. CBT provides flexible, robust and secure IT solutions and services to enable IFC to achieve its mission and business objectives in all IFC locations worldwide.

An opportunity exists within CBT for a System Engineer to join this dynamic team and contribute to the continued success of the department’s work program. The selected candidate will be a member of CBT’s Operations Unit, reporting to the ITO Offshore Delivery Lead with matrix reporting to CBT’s System Administration team Lead at HQ. This individual is responsible for supporting and managing IFC’s Unix server environment and related virtualization technologies hosting IFC’s business processes. His/her primary responsibility is to ensure the servers and services are properly maintained, secure and performing optimally. He/she is expected to coordinate and work closely with the onsite counterparts to deliver services efficiently. Working with various ITO teams and application delivery teams, he/she will support both IT operations and project activities.

Duties and Accountabilities:
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Perform all aspects of System Administration Services in accordance with established processes and guidelines. These include:

o Install, configure and maintain IBM AIX / Red Hat Linux operating system instances and servers

o Apply patches and maintain appropriate patch levels

o Set up and manage AIX management tools, Hardware Management Console (HMC) and Network Installation Manager (NIM)

o Ensure integrity of servers and system configuration by having proper backup and recovery processes

o Write and manage scripts in Korn/Bourne shell as required

o Carry out capacity planning and performance tuning activities

o Provide server and SAN provisioning services to application development projects

o Perform server Backup and Restore activities in close coordination with CBT’s Backup team

• Act as the offshore point of contact for the system administration team and coordinate activities of the offshore team members

• Review requirements with onsite counterpart and fulfill these in coordination with offshore delivery lead through well defined processes

• Maintain operational documentation, technical diagrams and business continuity/disaster recovery procedures

• Participate actively in all aspects of infrastructure projects and technical upgrades

• Participate in security audits and compliance initiatives. Ensure the servers are fully compliant with IFC security policies and internal controls.

• Provide 24/7 incident response for IFC’s production environment thru established escalation processes

• Provide periodic and ad-hoc status reports including KPIs as requested by offshore delivery lead

Selection Criteria:
• Master’s degree, preferably in Math, Computer Science or Engineering, and a minimum of five years’ relevant experience, the majority of which should be in Unix system administration for large scale operations. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

• Deep knowledge of Unix operating system and related technologies

• Excellent understanding of IBM AIX operating system including clusters, VIO, and LPAR’s

• Certification in IBM AIX administration

• Certification in Red Hat Linux is a plus

• Strong experience managing EMC SAN storage environment

• Extensive experience supporting complex and integrated application environments, primarily based on IBM AIX, IBM Websphere suite and Oracle relational databases

• Experience working with global IT organizations supporting decentralized business operations

• Ability to work with diverse international cultural backgrounds

• Demonstrated ability to train and mentor junior staff

• Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills

• Understanding of Bank, IFC and CBT business and processes preferred
