Vice Chancellor Victoria University, Kampala

Victoria University, Kampala is a new university with an ambitious and rapid growth strategy. The business model is based on bringing western standards of good practice and British qualifications to East Africa. The University received its operating licence in December 2010. Currently, we offer programmes in the areas of Business, Engineering, Nursing & Health Sciences and an International Foundation Program with plans to include further undergraduate and to introduce a postgraduate portfolio.

Post Title: Vice Chancellor
Reports to: Board of Directors
Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with skills and experience

Main Purposes of Post

  • Assist in development and execution of the business plan,
  • Collaborate with other universities regarding implementation of academic programs,
  • Responsible for defining and implementing policies to meet quality assurance requirements,
  • Lead day to day operation of the University and the general supervision and direction over the academic and administrative work.

Person specification

  • An internationally acclaimed and/or distinguished scholar with experience in a similar role at a University or institution of a similar status
  • Must have proven strategic leadership and executive level managerial, administrative, resource management, and people management skills
  • Must demonstrate integrity with commitment to the best practices in corporate governance with an emphasis on accountability
  • Have the ability to manage research grants and complementary funds from local & international agencies, and further uplift the academic status of the University.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder skills that demonstrate the ability to relate effectively to government & non-governmental organisations, the local community and foster linkages with institutions within and outside Uganda
  • Dynamic leadership, teamwork and interpersonal skills capable of inspiring the members of the university community towards the attainment of collective goals
  • Must have a thorough understanding of higher education academic contexts and regulatory requirements including those relating to the QAA in the UK
  • Knowledge and understanding of the British academic model.
