The role: Associate Legal Counsel

As Corporate Counsel at Google, you work on the most exciting legal issues as disruptive technological innovations require creative and proactive legal guidance. You're part of a whip-smart group of in-house lawyers and the projects and cases you take on challenge you to think big and differently. You are collaborative -- ready to partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of the business and work with Googlers from all over the company. As an integrated part of the team, you proactively assess legal risks and advise on products that will not only move information into the 21st century, but move information law forward as well.

As Associate Legal Counsel you will be part of our growing legal team in EMEA and will offer a particular focus in intellectual property and privacy law. You will assist in the negotiation and drafting of a range of commercial agreements, give litigation related assistance and carry out innovative legal projects as required. You’ll provide legal advice on a wide range of legal matters. You are detail-oriented, flexible, self-motivated and offer excellent organizational and communication skills. You’ll also demonstrate strong business judgement and strategic thinking along with the ability to produce high-quality work in a fast-paced environment. A deep understanding of Google's business and products are essential attributes for this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in drafting and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements under local law in relation to Google’s variety of products.
  • Respond promptly and reliably to internal and external requests for advice, specifically with regards to contracts, commercial regulations, IP, advertising, privacy and consumer protection under Spanish and European law.
  • Provide continued assistance in cutting edge litigation-related work.
  • Manage daily external correspondence and support the continuous improvement of related processes.
  • Assist with the maintenance of team know-how and databases.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BSc/LLB degree. In lieu of degree, relevant skills or equivalent experience.
  • Qualified lawyer in Spain and professional experience with a law firm advising media and technology companies and/or in-house experience in this industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree (LL.M or equivalent) from an English or North American law school.
  • Experience of drafting legal documents in a commercial or litigation context.
  • Knowledge of online technologies and services. A passion for technology, innovation and the development of the Internet.
  • Ability to manage several simultaneous projects from inception to completion under deadline pressure. High level of organisation,attention to detail and a sense of humour.
  • Written and oral fluency in Spanish and English (experience drafting contracts in Spanish and English).
  • European language(s), particularly Portuguese; willingness to travel.
