Communications and Outreach Specialist

With funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the International Youth Foundation (IYF) is working in partnership with the Jordanian Ministry of Social Development (MOSD) to design and implement Youth:Work Jordan (YWJ) - a five year holistic youth development program to improve social services and protection for vulnerable populations, with an overarching focus on youth employability and civic engagement. YWJ will achieve this goal through the delivery of comprehensive community based activities to meet the needs of disadvantaged youth between 5 and 24 years of age that fall under four components: 1)Increased Youth Access to Market-Driven Life, Employability, and Entrepreneurial Skills Training; 2) Provision of Youth Friendly Services; 3)Expanded Civic Engagement of Youth; and 4) Policy Coordination.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and manage Youth:Work Jordan’s communications and outreach activities, work with program partners and key stakeholders to ensure that all outreach activities and products comply with YWJ branding guidelines and messaging strategy;
  • Manage the program’s public relations activities and publications in coordination with IYF’s Strategic, Planning, and Outreach Team (SPOT) in Baltimore;
  • Plan and execute events and presentations to internal and external audiences at the national, regional and community level;
  • Serve as an in-house journalist researching and collecting content and stories about the project's achievements;
  • Manage the development and editing of high quality written materials including success stories, publications, press releases, feature stories, newsletters, and other communications materials;
  • Maintain the content of the Arabic and English versions of the YWJ website and other online resources, ensuring the timely posting of relevant information and updates, working with Baltimore counterparts as needed;
  • Manage the adaptation and translation of all program related communications, PR and media materials, including the development and production of Arabic PR and media materials;
  • Manage the relationship with vendors such as advertising agencies, print houses and film production agencies.
  • Develop good working relationships with key media editors and journalists by organizing briefings and press meetings.
  • Manage IYF’s Social Media accounts (Youth:Work Jordan and Badir Initiative)

SUPERVISOR

The Communications & Outreach Specialist reports directly to the Senior Communications Manager based in Amman - Jordan.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Arts degree, preferably in Communications, Journalism, or a PR related discipline.
  • Minimum 4 years experience, with some development experience required.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in both English and Arabic.
  • Experience in event management.
  • Experience in developing public awareness and outreach campaigns.
  • Experience in managing media relations, content development, and report writing.
  • Exceptional translation and editing skills in English and Arabic, including the ability to translate academically-oriented ideas into clear, concise, and interesting communications pieces targeting a non-academic audience.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and computer software skills including Microsoft Word, Excel Access and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work under pressure, and travel up to 25% of the time within Jordan when required.
