The project consists of open pit and underground mines, concentrator and supporting infrastructure to produce high-grade copper and gold concentrates.

The Oyu Tolgoi underground operations will comprise of block cave mines to exploit the Hugo Dummett deposit. The underground exploration development was commenced in 2006, with approximately 11 km of drives completed to date. Intensive underground development, construction activities and the sinking of major shafts to approximately 1,300m depth will be undertaken over the next four years. Production from the first lift of the Hugo North block-cave mine is scheduled to commence in 2016.

Reporting to the Manager Technical Services, theSuperintendent Mine Planning - Underground will lead a multi- disciplinary team in the detail design process and preparation of the underground mine plans and schedules in support of the block cave development, and with control provided by the Feasibility Study Mine Design.

Working as an integral member of a large Technical Services team, this leadership role is critical in the training, mentoring, and development of a Mongolian workforce in all areas of underground mining. Being familiar with continuous improvement tools such as Six Sigma and Lean methodologies is indispensable in this role, as you will evaluate and communicate opportunities to increase business value by considering early construction completion, project improvement, and production enhancement initiatives.

Degree qualified in engineering with extensive experience in underground mine engineering, particularly with large scale mining and development will be a definite asset. Previous leadership experience is critical, along with familiarity with rock mass and ore body modelling, project management and geotechnical design processes. Proficiency with mine planning and scheduling software, and a proven record of collaboration, solving complex problems, and meeting customer and stakeholder requirements are also essential for success in this role.
