WWF , Head of Project Finance

WWF International in Gland, Switzerland.

Main responsibilities:

  • Recommend, and agree with the Director of Finance & Administration, the medium to long-term strategy and vision for Project Finance, and refine the scope of operation of the Unit accordingly.
  • Manage and ensure the effective functioning of the Unit at the WWF International Secretariat in Gland while fostering its growth and performance.
  • Market the Project Finance Unit’s services and build relations with internal partners through effective, proactive and regular communication.
  • Ensure as a minimum a break-even budget for the Unit for each financial year with sufficient detail to be able to monitor and control the financial performance of the Unit throughout the year.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate and ensure the effective operation of the Project Finance Unit, being responsible for managing team dynamics, motivation, professional development and other employment-related issues.
  • Ensure the implementation of WWF standards and best practice in project administration in all operations of the Unit and use this experience to define how those standards and best practice can be further refined.
  • Ensure and maintain ongoing communication regarding the development of operational policies and procedures with all relevant contacts.
  • Monitor compliance with the business processes and the standards they contain.
  • Organize and perform customized training sessions in project administration for field offices. Train and coach co-trainers selected within the Project Finance Unit team members.


What you need:

Required Qualifications
  • A university degree, in a commercial or business administration related subject. An MBA and/or a recognized accounting qualification would be an asset.
  • Minimum seven years experience in the field of general business administration and management, or project management and administration, is essential.

Required Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to recommend and implement strategies and provide solutions which benefit both the Unit and organization.
  • Leadership and communication skills, coupled with diplomacy, numeracy, and business acumen are essential.
  • Proven interpersonal and people-management skills, complimented by excellent written and spoken English are a must (French language skills an asset).
  • Proven experience of designing business processes, setting standards, or establishing operating policies and procedures is desirable, preferably in a project or programme management context.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain clear lines of communication within a wide network of contacts is necessary.
  • Strong service orientation.
  • Strong financial skills, as well as a well-organised approach to work are necessary, legal skills in contract development would be an advantage.
