Agriculture Specialist in the Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia (CSISA)


We are seeking dynamic, innovative, self-motivated, and service-orientated professionals for the position of Agriculture Specialist in the Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia (CSISA).
In addition to strong basic knowledge of cereal crop production systems, the ideal candidates will have a mix of practical field skills as well as specialized knowledge in one or more key areas where CIMMYT requires technical leadership such as weed science, water resources, agricultural mechanization, agri-business development, or post-harvest technologies. Interest in training and building broad-based collaborations with the public and private sector are a must. Experience with participatory and on-farm methods will be highly valued in the selection process.
Positions will be based in the eastern Indian states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh or Odisha, and will require a significant amount of travel between project sites within each state.
The main responsibilities of this position will be:
  • Contribute to the testing and participatory refinement of key new agricultural technical innovations, specifically those related to sustainable intensification (e.g. conservation agriculture, site-specific management, precision water management, scale-appropriate mechanization, etc.)
  • Implement field trials and community-based technology demonstrations.
  • Lead training events for service providers, agro-dealers, NGOs partners, and lead farmers.
  • Develop strong working relationships with public, private sector, and Civil Society (NGOs, Cooperatives, etc.) partners. 
  • Manage and summarize data and research findings.
We are seeking candidates with the following qualification, skills and attitudes:
  • Advanced degree in agricultural sciences or related areas, such as rural development or management.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant ‘on the job’ experience.
  • Good partnership building and networking experience with the public and private sectors.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-orientation. 
  • Advanced level of English.
