Salary: R236 532 per annum (Ref. DOHS/135/2012)

Requirements: • Appropriate recognised 3-year diploma/Engineering degree/ Natural Science/Environmental Management/National Diploma in Natural Sciences and a BSc in Water and Sanitation will be an advantage • At least 3-5 years’ experience in projects planning and implementation (water and sanitation) • Knowledge of relevant legislation: National Water Act and Water Services Act Good written and verbal communication skills • Knowledge of Public Service Act and Regulations • Knowledge of Pubic Finance Management Act • Knowledge on the National Water Act, 1998 (Act 36 of 1998) • Valid driver’s licence (certified copy must be attached) • Computer skills • Good communication and report-writing skills • Ability to interpret technical reports and present these reports to management • Problem-solving and analysis skills • People management and empowerment • Client orientation and customer focus • Accountability and ethical conduct • Willingness to travel extensively and work irregular hours.

Duties: • Implement the National Water Act, 1998 (Act 36 of 1998) • Develop and share a vision and mission for the section • Liaise with sector departments: Cooperative Governments, Water Affairs, National Human Settlements (Engineering unit), LGs, DMs, and other bodies to deliver technical reports and implement MIG/RDP norms in funding projects • Ensure that the operation and maintenance of sanitation system in all social, economic and engineering aspects have been taken into consideration to adequately meet the community’s needs • Assist the Sanitation Manager in managing the unit and plan execution of sanitation for short and medium term • Check the reports against the project millstones and liaise with implementing agents/municipalities • Schedule meetings with stakeholders • Monitor progress on the implementation of projects related to sanitation • Effectively manage relationships in order to achieve unit’s goals • Interpret technical reports and communicate these reports to stakeholders and management • Assess Water Use Authorisation applications.
