COALITION COORDINATION INTERNSHIP


Control Arms is a global civil society alliance campaigning for a bulletproof Arms Trade Treaty that will protect lives and livelihoods. A bulletproof Arms Trade Treaty means an international legally-binding agreement that will stop transfers of arms and ammunitions that fuel conflict, poverty and serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.
This winter, the Final Diplomatic Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty will be held from March 18-29 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, NY. Ideally, the Coalition Coordination Intern will be available 3-4 days a week from January through March, including March 17, 24 and 30.
RESPONSIBILITIES: For assistance before and during the Final Diplomatic Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty, Control Arms is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who is interested in attending an international treaty negotiation conference and contributing to the work of an extensive NGO network. The Coalition Coordination Intern will assist in accommodating coalition members attending the Conference, and will provide support to the Secretariat by taking notes and minutes of meetings and preparing resources and materials, among other tasks. They will also act as the main point of contact for conference attendees, coordinate logistics and spend much of their time interacting with a broad cross-section of participants. This internship may also include work on development such as grants research, donor database, and grant reporting.
REQUIREMENTS: Ĺ“ Fluency in English; fluency in other languages is an asset; Ĺ“ Undergraduate or graduate student working towards a degree in Law, International Relations, History, Political Science, Area Studies or related field; Ĺ“ Excellent attention to detail; Organizational and administrative skills; Ĺ“ Ability to work independently and proactively in a deadline]driven environment; Ĺ“ Excellent written and oral communication, research and analytical skills; Ĺ“ Effective team player with the ability to work and think independently; Ĺ“ Previous experience working in multicultural environments; culturally sensitive
PREFERRED: Ĺ“ Fluency in Spanish, French or Arabic Ĺ“ Prior experience with conference coordination, administrative support, social media and event planning Ĺ“ Prior experience working in a non-profit environment, particularly within the UN system Ĺ“ Knowledge of and interest in international security, peacebuilding and/or the arms trade helpful;
