Position Summary
The Rotating Machinery and Reliability Engineer is a critical role developing maintenance excellence, ensuring rotating equipment reliability, support contracting and providing day to day technical support.
He/she is accountable for the development and implementation of the following in accordance BG's Operate Programme, industry standards and industry best practice:
  • Maintenance & Reliability Strategy for all rotating machinery.
  • Front line engineering and troubleshooting support for all rotating machinery
  • Contracts Accountable Manager (CAM) for operations support contracts (LTSA's etc.)
  • Operations budget input with regard to key areas of this role with particular attention to long term overhaul and service costs of rotating equipment.
He/she ensures functional activities are conducted in a manner consistent with the Internal Controls Framework (BG Business Principles, Standards and Policies) within BG Assets.
Key Accountabilities
  • Every individual has a duty to both themselves and those around them to ensure that safe practice is adhered to at all times. In addition to any specific accountability for HSSE, all managers are accountable for HSSE within their area of the Business and are responsible for ensuring that their team adopts exemplary HSSE behaviours.
  • Contributing to delivery of the Operations Assurance Plan by carrying out the Functional/Asset scope of work in accordance with the BG Way and the Internal Control Framework. In particular, this will require identifying any compliance gaps to functional standards, developing plans to address them and seeking dispensations as required.
  • Supporting the implementation of the Production & Operations functional strategy and improvement plans within the job holder's defined scope of work, including the following:
    • Implementation of specific elements of OMS and OPERATE programs.
    • Application of operations best practice.
    • Drive maintenance improvement of rotating machinery through the application of Maintenance Excellence and the implementation of standardised work processes.
    • Accountable for the implementation of an Equipment Reliability Improvement Program (ERIP) within the Maintenance Excellence program, specifically Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and equipment management.
    • To provide technical expertise to improve physical asset performance through effective application of appropriate reliability improvement tools and techniques.
    • To assist in the development of new or improved enhancement tools and techniques that may be required as part of this improvement program.
    • Development of an asset reliability strategy for rotating equipment and accountable for its execution.
    • Provision of front-line engineering and troubleshooting support.
    • Manage key contracting companies and procurement for all site and offshore based rotating machinery.
    • Introduce systems to rectify current deficiencies in rotating equipment availability
    • Manage and monitor progress in implementing these systems against agreed targets
    • Support major projects and establish operating frameworks, systems and practices which sustain and improve predefined standards of HSSE and discharging prudent governance and risk management processes commensurate with BGA requirements for maintaining operating practices in line with the VAF process.

  • Experience in training and mentoring personnel
  • Ability to work in small teams with minimal support
  • Able to deliver against pre-agreed deadlines and to high standards with minimal supervision or line management assistance.
