PATH's Advocacy and Public Policy (APP) department works to improve global health by increasing awareness and support of global health priorities by working with policymakers, coalitions, and other influential individuals and groups. The APP department is seeking a Policy Communications Officer who will partner with advocacy staff at PATH to develop and oversee the implementation of communications in support of PATH’s policy and advocacy goals.  The Policy Communications Officer will report to the Senior Manager of Advocacy and Public Policy and have an indirect reporting relationship with the PATH Communications Department Director. They will be part of a team of more than 25 staff working in five countries to promote PATH’s policy and advocacy goals. Duties and responsibilities include:
  • In partnership the Senior Director of Policy & Advocacy, policy leads, and PATH’s communications department, develop, implement and oversee communications in support of PATH’s advocacy strategy. 
  • Supervise four staff members who support publications development, events coordination, and multimedia creation. 
  • Work closely with advocacy and communications experts across PATH to produce a suite of policy communications materials and messages and advocacy events in support of policy and advocacy outcomes.
  • Partner with the Director of Media Relations to increase policy-related media outreach and engagement in Washington, DC as well as through international journalists, producers, and bloggers.
  • Oversee PATH’s policy and advocacy event participation including congressional briefings, hearings, panel discussions, training and conferences. 
  • Provide input into PATH’s overall communications strategy and activities. 
  • Oversee a policy-oriented speaker’s bureau at PATH. 
  • Work closely with PATH’s External Relations Department and other PATH staff to contribute to outreach and visibility goals at PATH. 
  • Manage consulting contracts with public relations or other communications’ firms to support advocacy goals.

Required Experience
Graduate degree in communications, public relations or related discipline, plus a minimum of seven years of experience in communications;  may be an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience working in communications for global health or development and in targeting advocacy audiences preferred.
