Reporting Accountant HomeChoice - Wynberg, Cape Town


Purpose of this role

To perform and manage the financial reporting, tax management and risk management functions within the company, as well as ensure effective staff management

Key Performance Areas

Statutory reporting
  • Preparation of accurate group and company AFS for sign off at the audit committee meeting in March
  • Preparation of accurate group interim reporting for sign off at the audit committee meeting in August
  • Preparation of audit file and supporting schedules by the deadline
Management accounts to the business
  • Ensure accurate management accounts are issued to the business by the monthly deadlines
  • Ensure reports are considered and updated to comply with and address business needs
  • Timely review of all control account reconciliations and providing support to preparers as needed
  • Conduct monthly management account meetings with the various business units to discuss queries and address action points
  • Continuously work at improving reporting deadlines and qualitative value of management accounts/reports to better meet the needs of the various business units
  • Prepare monthly consolidation (including income statement, statement of financial position and statement of cash flows) of various business units
  • Preparation of certain month-end journals
Tax Compliance
  • Perform monthly income tax calculations
  • Completion and timely submission of income tax returns (including provisional tax)
  • Review of VAT calculations/returns and ensure timely submission
  • Calculation of VAT apportionment %s.
  • Preparation of VAT apportionment correcting journal entries at year end
  • Review of employee tax returns and ensure timely submission
  • Reconciling various submitted tax information (IT14SD)
  • Attending to all SARS queries (objections /refunds) and ensure that they are addressed and resolved timely
Other Tasks
  • Review letters of credit and maintain a register of all issued
  • Review and approval of EFT/cheque payments (including foreign payment requests)
  • Review of short-term insurance cover
  • Completion and submission of StatsSA and NCR returns and compliance reports
  • Attending to ad hoc tasks as required by the Group Financial Manager and Group Financial Director
  • Prepare financial forecasts for the finance and company management departments
  • Review of fixed asset residual value and useful life estimations
  • Maintain schedules for the Share Incentive Scheme and perform necessary calculations
Forecasting
  • Provide support and guidance to the forecast accountant w.r.t. the company forecast process
  • Review all forecast submissions submitted as part of the annual forecast process
  • Preparation of forecasts for the finance department
Management of People
  • Ensure team members have clear and tangible goals which are assessed bi-annually through the KPA performance management process
  • Provide regular feedback to the group financial manager on the performance of the team
  • Hold regular one-on-one meetings with members of the team to identify any areas of concerns and implement appropriate corrective actions
  • Mentor staff and identify needs and develop career growth plans
  • Provide effective leadership to team members in order to reduce turnover and achieve optimal efficiency of the department
  • Ensure team works effectively with individuals across the business to gain knowledge on strategies, business processes to improve overall profitability and customer service

Desired Skills & Experience

Qualifications
  • CA (SA), Articles with one of the big 4 firms
Experience & Skills
  • 2-5  Years’   commercial post articles experience
  • Knowledge of change management
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and   cost control principles
  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting   systems
  • Good knowledge of IFRS
  • Previous working experience in retail will be beneficial
