VACANCIES FOR SENIOR LEVEL ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS
The University of Ghana invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the senior level administrative positions listed below, which will become vacant on 1st August, 2013. 
POSITION (1): Provost, College of Health Sciences

REPORTING TO: Vice-Chancellor 

The College of Health Sciences comprises the Medical School, Dental School, School of Allied Health Sciences, School of Public Health, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy and the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Provost is the academic and administrative head of the College and is required to provide administrative, academic and scientific direction and leadership. He/She is responsible for setting and implementing the agenda within the College’s broad strategic plans as well as initiating new directions in the academic development of the College, as determined by the Council and Academic Board of the University.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: The successful applicant must:
• Be of professorial status in a University or Research institution.
• Have capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the college and in the University as a whole.
• Possess excellent inter-personal and communication skills and must be a team player.
• Have excellent fund-raising abilities.
• Experience in management and close association with relevant international organizations.


POSITION (2): Director, Institute Statistical Social and Economic Research

REPORTING TO: Vice-Chancellor

The Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research
ISSER currently serves as the research wing of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ghana and engages in a number of policy relevant research whose findings are intended to help policy makers on the best policy decisions to make for national development.

POSITION (3): Director, School of Communication Studies

REPORTING TO: Dean, Faculty of Social Studies


The School of Communication Studies (SCS) was established in 1972 and currently offers two programmes in Communication Studies, namely, Master of Arts (M.A.) and Master of Philosophy (M.Phil).


POSITION (4): Director, School of Performing Arts

REPORTING TO: Dean, Faculty of Arts

The School of Performing Arts is made up of the Departments of Music, Theatre Arts and Dance Studies.

POSITION (5): Dean, School of Nursing

REPORTING TO: Provost, College of Health Sciences

The School of Nursing, established since 2003 currently comprises the following Departments:
Adult Health
Community Health
Maternal & Child Health
Mental Health
Education, Research & Administration

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITIONS LISTED ABOVE [2-5]
(a) Must be of professorial status from an academic/research institution.
(b) Must be capable of providing academic leadership especially in the area of teaching, research and extension in the relevant disciplines.
(c) Must provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the School/Institute.
(d) Must demonstrate capacity to attract funding for research and development.
(e) Must have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of the School/Institute.

DUTIES FOR POSITIONS 2-5 LISTED ABOVE
A Dean/Director is responsible for providing leadership to the School/Institute and for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order in accordance with the policies and procedures prescribed by the University Act and Statutes, or as may be determined by the Council, the Academic Board and the School/Institute Board.
The Dean/Director is to ensure that the approved programmes and functions of the School/Institute are duly carried out by members of the School/Institute.
The Dean/Director is also responsible for the general administration of the School/Institute in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of University policy.

TENURE FOR POSITIONS 1-5 LISTED ABOVE
Three (3) years in the first instance and renewable for another term of up to 3 years.

POSITION (6): Director, Sports Directorate.

REPORTING TO: Registrar

The Director of Sports is responsible for the overall management of sports within the University. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director Sports is responsible for the following:
• The development of sports and related activities
• Organization of sporting events
• Liaising with external sports organizations
• The management of the Sports Directorate
• Advising the Academic Board on matters relating to the award of academic credit for student participation in sports
• Holding sports clinics for the members of the university
• Representing the University on external sporting bodies
• The preparation of teams for sporting events and
• The discharge of any other assignments that the Registrar shall deem necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: 
The suitable candidate should have a postgraduate qualification plus 7-10 years of post qualification experience as a practitioner in the field of sports.
The Postgraduate qualification may be in the areas of Sports management/administration, Education or other relevant disciplines.
The person should possess high-level analytical skills, business sense as well as a deep appreciation of the operational and strategic issues and challenges involved in top-level University Management and Administration.

POSITION (7): Head, University of Ghana Basic Schools

REPORTING TO: The Chairman of the Basic Schools Board

The University Basic School is made up of the Kindergarten, Primary and JHS departments.
The head will be in charge of the general administration, development and growth of the Schools as centres of academic excellence and will be required to provide leadership and exercise initiative in the management of an establishment with a growing student population in a competitive national environment.
As a self-financing and self-accounting unit of the University, the Head will be expected to generate income for its operations and be responsible for prudent management of the school.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Head is responsible for providing leadership to the Schools and for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order of the campus.
He/She is also responsible for the general administration of the school, in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of University policy.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The successful candidate must have the following:
• a good first degree plus a professional qualification in Education.
• A Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Be a visionary person, with the ability to establish linkages within the University system and with other external bodies.
• Considerable experience in teaching and management in an educational institution.
• Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.
• Appropriate Information Technology skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain high academic standards and discipline.


POSITION (8): Director, Counseling and Placement Centre

REPORTING TO: Registrar

The Counseling and Placement Centre offers comprehensive professional counseling as well as career and placement services to all members of the University, including students and alumni.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director is responsible for providing leadership in the area of counseling and career advisory services in the University. and for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order in accordance with the policies and procedures prescribed by the University Act and Statutes, or as may be determined by the Council, the Academic Board and the Advisory Board of the Centre.

The Director is to ensure that the approved programmes and functions of the Centre are duly carried out by members of the Centre.
The Director is also responsible for the general administration of the Centre in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of University policy.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: i. The candidate should possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field, with a minimum of 10 years relevant working experience at management level.
ii. In addition, the applicant must have:
a) considerable strategic, interpersonal and collegial skills that will enable him/her to function within the Higher Education Sector;
b) good business sense with a deep understanding and appreciation of the strategic and operational issues in top-level University management and administration.
c) High level analytical skills and demonstrable evidence of competence and leadership.
d) Considerable experience in dealing with students at the tertiary level
