The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is seeking an individual for the position of Social Media Practitioner/WebMaster in the Public Affairs Section (PAS).

Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED
1. Education: Completion of secondary school is required.
2. Experience: Minimum of two years experience in the field of web management, information technology, graphic design, journalism, communication or public relations or related field is required.
3. Language: English level IV (fluent) reading/writing/speaking is required.
4. Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of current information technologies including social media is required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of computers and software related to web site design and development, graphics, multimedia and web 2.0 principles and practices is required.
- Good understanding of South African and U.S. foreign and domestic policy and current affairs is required.
- Knowledge and understanding of Diplomatic Mission South Africa priorities and goals in order to provide the appropriate emphasis in electronic outreach and on web sites is required.
5. Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work effectively independently, and as part of a team within Public Affairs Section is required.
- Ability to prioritize competing work duties is required.
- Artistic and aesthetic abilities for graphic design duties and web page layouts are required.
- Ability to use digital photography and social media is required.
- Strong written skills to communicate with public and strong oral and written skills for communication within the Mission are required.

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position:
The position serves as content manager for the Mission's main web site, developer and manager of its program and event specific sites as well as social media sites, with the objective of reaching and engaging a target audience on USG policies and issues, and informing this audience about Mission and services and programs. Researches and recommends new material, technologies and platforms to achieve this objective. Assists in moderating interaction with the audience engaging the Mission on these sites, and assists in drafting, editing, selecting and placing appropriate content on all these sites.

Basic Salary: R197,638 - R276,695 per annum
Cash Benefits: R56,530 - R63,118 per annum
Non-cash benefits include medical, pension and others where applicable
