Introduction
Save the Children is a unique independent children’s organisation working in child rights, humanitarian response and development. Save the Children UK’s Humanitarian Department is structured around three pillars; capacity building & preparedness, emergency response and support (HR, Finance & Admin).
The Capacity Building and Preparedness (CBP) team is organised into two principal groups looking at 1) people development and training and 2) operations preparedness and support. The Operations support team works very closely with the SCI Programme Operations team, with new ways of working being currently developed as direct country programme management has passed from SCUK and other SC members to Save the Children International.
The CBP team is implementing a range of initiatives intended to build global surge capacity, develop talent at all levels, provide better training to staff at the national level, improve global and in-country operational preparedness and to build on lessons learned in past responses by developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for emergency response.
Job Purpose
The Training Programme Manager will be a key post within Save the Children’s work to improve the overall quality of operational delivery within a number of key country programmes. The role will focus on the organisation and delivery of a number of training programmes for country programmes. This will include operations training for field managers and other key staff, preparedness training and supporting the roll out of the systems and processes which have been developed in order to assist country programmes in their operational delivery.
The post holder will also be expected to contribute to other humanitarian capacity building initiatives undertaken by the Save the Children UK Capacity Building and Preparedness Team.
Key accountabilities
  1. Training Programme (Operations) Management
•Work closely with country programmes, regional offices and the SCI Programme Operations team to identify training needs at the country level in key country programmes which are required to enable country programme staff to have the necessary skills to be able to implement a strong operational structure and therefore scale up programming if required •Contribute to the development of new and bespoke training materials for different levels of training, both generic operational training materials and also specific training events for key targeted countries. •Contribute to the delivery of training events in targeted country programmes as required as part of a wider training team •Ensure training programmes are managed effectively by organising facilitators and trainers as required and managing the logistics of the training programme as needed. •Document lessons learnt from training events, and disseminate learning to the wider Capacity Building and Preparedness Team and other key stakeholders. •Ensure that training evaluations and impact assessments take place and write training reports as required. •Lead on the organisation and delivery of individual training events when required – both formal training events and more scenario based training, including Emergencies Preparedness Plan training events, ensuring that key learning objectives are identified, agreed upon and achieved. 2. Contribute to other humanitarian capacity building initiatives •Provide coaching and mentoring to individuals and groups as part of the various training initiatives undertaken by the Capacity Building and Preparedness team •Contribute to the development of assessment frameworks and external accreditation processes as part of the wider work of the People Development and Training team •Contribute to other training events and activities (for example: Humanitarian Operations Programmes, Humanitarian Leadership Development Programme, European Humanitarian Volunteer Programme, Humanitarian Technical Trainee Programme) when needed and provide support to the overall people development projects being implemented by the capacity building and preparedness team •Contribute to the development of the Humanitarian and Leadership Academy initiative when required •Contribute to the standardisation of tools, systems and templates for training in order to continue to increase the quality of the work of the Capacity Building and Preparedness team and monitor impact •Contribute to team planning and strategy development •Keep up to date with current trends and methodology in relation to learning and development, and build contacts with relevant organisations

Person specification
Essential •Good experience of designing, managing and facilitating remote training events and workshops Excellent project management and organisational skills gained through managing complex cross-organisational projects and training events
•Experience of working in country programmes and undertaking management training and capacity building with staff in highly operational countries •Good overall understanding of operational programming and its challenges in fragile state countries •Strong commitment to, and significant experience in, capacity building and continuous professional development •Good experience of a wide range of adult learning methodologies including simulations, case studies, group work, presentations and distance learning •Good experience of assessing individual learning, evaluating training events and measuring the longer term impact of training on organisational and individual performance •Good experience of mentoring and coaching adult learners. •Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels and across cultures •Patient, adaptable, flexible, able to improvise and remain responsive under pressure •Ability to travel internationally, occasionally at short notice and to remote and insecure locations

Desirable •Experience of a range of psychometric assessment techniques (including assessment centres) •Experience of working in conflict or emergency-affected areas (or other situations where insecurity and corruption can be big issues) •An accredited training or adult learning qualification •Fluent in French, Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic
