Currently, we work with 112 partners in 57 districts of Nepal in the areas of Child Rights Governance, Protection, Education, Health and Nutrition, Livelihood, HIV and AIDS and Emergencies. Our 2012 budget is approximately USD 29 million with the reach of approximately two million populations.

In Bhutan, Save the Children started working in 1982 as a national development partner for the Royal Government of Bhutan, providing financial and technical support in the areas of Education, Child Protection and Emergencies.

Save the Children International is looking for Deputy Count ry Director – Programme Operations for Nepal and Bhutan to join our team. This is a 2-year assignment based in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Role purpose:
The Deputy Country Director - Programme Operations is responsible for ensuring overall management and quality delivery of Save the Children’s development as well as emergency response programmes in Nepal. Specifically, the job-holder is responsible to ensure timely and quality delivery of the planned projects and programmes. S/he will provide guidance and management support to the Regional Programme Managers, Associate Director, Humanitarian Manager, and Logistic and Partnership Managers and is accountable for all aspects of programme implementation including administrative, project related procurement and supplies, financial and quality reporting requirements. S/he will also be responsible to support and coordinate for lessons derived through implementation of projects are well arti culated, documented and disseminated both internally and externally and fed into strategic development of the overall portfolio.

As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) in Nepal, S/he shares the overall responsibility for the direction and coordination of the Country Office.

Key areas of accountability:
- Takes lead in organising Country Annual Planning (CAP) and project plans development meetings and workshops in all regional offices and at the national level.
- Develop Detail Implementation (DIP) Plans, phased budgets and program implementation strategies for each of the projects and ensure they are followed thoroughly by all project/program managers.
- Ensure Emergency Preparedness Plans is in place and updated and for small and medium sized humanitarian response are in place and responded as and when required.
- Supervise and provide guidance to the Associate Director, Regional Program Managers, project and program managers in the planning, implementation and monitoring of CAP and project plan.
- Ensure that programme review, and program monitoring take place as scheduled and that relevant findings including MEAL team are timely responded and or/ incorporated into programming.
- Oversee the timely, efficient and effective delivery of a high quality child-focused and right based programs including management of grants and technical support, recruitment and supervision and support in all five regional offices of the country office.
- Ensure quality proposals
- Ensure that Save the Children complies with donor and SCI regulations on all projects. In particular, ensure organisational policies and procedures are closely followed in regard to bidding and tendering processes.
- Oversee partners relationship and represent Save the Children with relevant stakeholders such as development community, UN agencies and government.

Qualifica tions and experience:
- Higher Education Master Degree or equivalent
- At least seven years of senior management experience preferably in an I/NGO environment, including experience in directing and implementing programs for children in both emergency and development contexts
- Outstanding on project cycle management and implementation
- Demonstrated significant experience in health, education, protection, livelihood and humanitarian response sector in a developing country context
- Prior experience in working with government staff
- Demonstrated management and development of diverse teams of national and international professional staff
- Proven sound strategic thinking and planning skills, including ability to think creatively and be innovative, set priorities, manage work plans and evaluate progress.
- Highly developed relationship building, negotiation and interpersonal skills
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
