Security Adviser , Lebanon

The role

The overall objective of this position is to reduce the risks posed to the programme personnel and assets of all national and international SC staff and their dependants in Lebanon through the provision of specialized, coordinated and focused security management support. The Security Adviser will assess the security of the programmatic and operational environment and maintain an effective security management system in accordance with Save the Children policies and standards. This role will include ongoing threat assessment and advising on risk management; the maintenance of appropriate guidelines; and ensuring that field working practices are robust and that all staff are aware of, trained on, and adhere to these policies and procedures. Integral to the posting is the ability to work successfully with field teams to cultivate capacity and motivation, thereby ensuring field-based responsibi lity for security analysis and management. The Security Adviser will work with other humanitarian NGOs and main embassies security focal points as well as community leaders in areas of operations in order to facilitate and secure SCI’s field missions and operations. This position is also to ensure the recruitment is finalised and support to the capacity building of the national Security Manager.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelors Degree in a related field or at least 5-7 years comparable related experience;
• Substantial experience in non-profit organisations with int’l humanitarian assistance programs including supervisory and overseas work experience;
• Substantial security management experience in int’l humanitarian, military or police setting.
• Advanced level of understanding of various communications technologies, including VHF and HF radio systems, satellite phones, cell ph ones, etc.
• Solid training skills and the ability to develop and implement successful training sessions;
• Solid organizational skills:
• The ability to be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced team environment;
• Computer literacy, particularly in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and database/mapping systems;
• Ability to balance demands of beneficiary and security actors while maintaining appropriate contextual NGO security advice and coordination;
• Resourcefulness and creativity in developing the role of security within the programme and ensuring the most effective support to line management;
• Excellent planning, coordination, and reporting skills, with the ability to organise a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities;
• Strong communication, people management and interpersonal skills in English and Arabic, with experience in leading multicultural, multi-locatio n, values driven teams;
• Willingness to work and travel in often difficult and insecure environments;
• Commitment to Save the Children global policies and values.
• Valid Driving Licence
• Ideally able to speak Arabic and work experience in Middle East/ Lebanon
