Our placements start between June and September and are up to 12 months long. We offer a competitive annual salary for the duration of your placement.
We do not have closing dates for our Industrial Trainee placements, however we advise you apply as soon as you can as once we have filled our vacancies we will close for further applications.

Job Description

As all of our placements are working in different sectors, at the interview stage for a placement we will discuss what the work for that particular role will involve. In all of our placements you will be working with graduates, experienced professionals and other students, learning about Mott MacDonald, our structure and culture, and getting involved with real projects to gain relevant experience. We do not have a formal structure for our placements so the more you ask questions and ask to get involved, the more you will gain from your experience with us.
We have industrial trainee placements in the following sectors:
Buildings: Worldwide Mott MacDonald has been helping design and deliver buildings that are safe, striking, efficient and able to stand the test of time. We have opportunities for civil and structural engineering students and building services students based in Belfast, Birmingham, Glasgow and Norwich.
Transport: Transportation is a core sector of Mott MacDonald and our team is recognised for delivering a wide range of world class technical, managerial and analytical services to our customers around the globe. We have opportunities for civil, computer science, electrical and mechanical based in Glasgow, Birmingham, Croydon, Derby and York.
Power: Our power capability is one of the best in the world. We cover all aspects of thermal, nuclear and renewable energy generation, transmission and distribution, worldwide. We are one of the largest power consultancies in the world who provide services worldwide to a diverse range of clients. We have electrical placements available in our Brighton and Glasgow office.
Water & Environment: Our Water and Environment management unit provides consultancy services for the water, environment and international development sectors. We have placements avaliable for Civil students in Shifnal.

Candidate Specification

To join us for an Industrial Trainee placement you must currently be at University or looking for a pre-university placement.
We typically have placements for students studying the degree disciplines below. If your degree discipline does not appear in this list, we still encourage you to apply as our requirements can change but please be advised that we may not have a suitable placement for you this year:
- Civil engineering;
- Structural Engineering; - Mechanical Engineering; - Electrical Engineering; - Building Services - Computer Science
To be successful in our placements you should be able to demonstrate the following: - High level of IT literacy and numeracy skills; - Enthusiastic and will confidently liaise with external and internal contacts; - Ability to be adaptable and able to work both independently and as part of a team; - Ability to produce clear and logical written communication; - Pay strong attention to detail and demonstrate accurate work; - Flexible approach to work, and ability to prioritise and manage time effectively to meet deadlines and client needs.
