The position is located within the Social Protection Department which is responsible for promoting enhanced coverage and effectiveness of social protection for all through efficient and sustainable national social protection floors and comprehensive social security systems, in line with provisions of Recommendation concerning national floors of social protection, 2012 (No. 202) and other ILO social security standards.

The Public Finance, Actuarial and Statistics Branch is responsible for applying the principles and values of ILO social security, labour protection and employment standards to public finance, actuarial and statistical conceptual developments and public policies relating to social protection as well as capacity building activities in the above areas.
The position also ensures coherence of policy messages both within the Office and with other international institutions, particularly through the Social Protection Inter-Agency Cooperation Board. The position will plan, mobilize resources, organize task teams and supervise activities of research, development and technical cooperation at the departmental level. In countries it supports the strengthening of the financial and fiscal governance of social protection programmes and systems, their monitoring and evaluation as well as the capacity building of social protection institutions and social partners. Together with the Social Policy, Governance and Standards Branch it executes technical cooperation activities of the Department.

The Chief is responsible for the management and direction of the Branch. He/she reports directly to the Director of the Social Protection Department.
