TITLE: Statistical Assistant, Data Processing Standards Unit (DPS)

CONTRACT TYPE: Service Contract - initial duration of 6 months - with possibility of renewal

SALARY: CAD $ 2,743.58/month, net of income taxes

OFFICE: UNESCO Institute for Statistics, Montreal, Canada, Data Processing, Standards, and IT Services Section (DPSS)

1. DUTIES:

Under the overall administrative authority of the Director of the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) and the direct supervision of the Head of DPS Unit in matrix management structure, the incumbent will perform the following General Service level tasks, in particular:

1. Process data and questionnaires in all UNESCO’s fields of competence (Education, Science and Technology, Communication and Culture).
2. Analyze questionnaire responses to identify data quality issues and take corrective action.
3. Prepare clear and concise documents regarding data quality issues for respondents, analysts and regional staff.
4. Communicate with survey respondents in national ministries worldwide on a regular basis to resolve issues pertaining to non-response or data quality.
5. Undertake informal translations. Assure the quality of translated documents and questionnaires translated by others. Assist in fact-checking and proof-reading of statistical and other technical materials.
6. Test and validate data collection instruments, processing systems and methods.
7. Perform any additional activities that may be required to ensure the success of the team as assigned by the supervisor.

OCCUPANT RESPONSIBLE TO: Programme Specialist, DPS

QUALIFICATIONS:

2. EDUCATION: Completion of postsecondary or equivalent level of education. Additional training in statistics or data management is an asset.

3. EXPERIENCE: Three to five years of relevant full-time work experience in the collection, verification, processing or analysis of statistical data is required. Proficiency in MS Office with advanced skills in MS Excel is essential. Knowledge of MS Access, SQL, CRM, SharePoint and/or statistical software such as Stata would be an asset.

4. LANGUAGE: Excellent knowledge of English or French with very good working knowledge of the other language is also required. Knowledge of Arabic, Russian or Spanish would be an asset.

5. NATIONALITY: In order to be eligible for this contract, applicant must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or hold a valid Canadian work permit.

6. SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

• Attention to detail, problem solving, time management and professionalism are key competencies for this position. 
• Must enjoy working collaboratively in a multicultural and dynamic team environment.
