Communications/Administration Intern

The European Magazine Media Association (EMMA) is a non-profit organization representing over 15.000 publishers throughout Europe publishing over 50.000 magazine titles in Europe, reaching on average 80% of European adults. 300 million Europeans read magazines on a regular, consistent basis.
EMMA is offering an unpaid internship at the Secretariat’s offices in Brussels for a period of 3-6 months (a small allowance for transport and food will be provided). The ideal candidate would be able to start as soon as possible, but we remain a bit flexible with the dates. This internship will benefit anyone who seeks professional experience related to lobbying and communication in a European, membership-based organization.
Duties:
The internship offers the possibility to learn about the work of EMMA, especially its advocacy and communication actions in Brussels. It consists of support and assistance in the following areas:
  • Supporting EMMA’s events with key politicians, seminars, receptions at the European Parliament, webinars, etc.
  • Supporting EMMA’s administration and organizational work, such as preparing meetings with members, working with vendors, etc.
  • Assisting the preparation of promotional and informational brochures, newsletters, press releases, etc.
  • Updating and developing the EMMA websites and social media sites (LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.)
  • Supporting the Communication and Administration Officer in developing and implementing new communication activities and projects
  • Getting involved in the development of EMMA’s think-tank initative Future Media Lab. (communication and administration): network building, external and internal communication, events, including help expanding our sponsor relations
  • Updating and managing EMMA’s database
  • Research and background work to support the overall activities of EMMA
Qualifications:
  • The person should be an excellent team-player and be interested in media policy in the EU context. Knowledge of EU policies and institutions an advantage
  • Candidate should have excellent English language skills and very good written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of French a strong asset.
  • Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database)
  • Knowledge of website maintenance desired (particularly familiarity with the Wordpress platform)
  • The candidate should be self-motivated, well organized, able to work efficiently and autonomously, as part of a small team is essential
EMMA internships are only open to candidates registered in a university/school/institute, as a contract must be signed between EMMA and the student's home university. Please note that this is a compulsory condition; applications that do not match this criterion will not be short listed.
