Provincial Primary Health Service Support Officers (3) – Solomon Islands - Ministry of Health & Medical Services  
         Improve Financial Management and primary health program planning and implementation in the Provinces (Malaita, Western and Guadalanal)

You will be committed to making a difference within a cross-cultural setting, with a clear mandate to contribute to the achievement of quality health services through the National Health Strategic Plan for the people of the Solomon Islands – a Pacific Island nation with a population of approximately 500,000 people.
 
Reporting to the Provincial Health Director for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, key objectives of this challenging role will be to improve primary health service program planning and implementation, financial management and develop capacity in the province. Primary Health Service Implementation will include identification of gaps in implementation of provincial plans for Public Health Programs, supporting health teams to ensure primary health services are well coordinated and reaching communities in a systematic and efficient manner. Financial Management will include ensuring government procurement guidelines are followed and working with the provincial accounting team to maintain and improve financial management and reporting systems. Develop the skills of the provincial staff in program management, basic financial and computer literacy and communications.

  • Your demonstrated project management and financial management skills.
  • Your experience in implementing primary health programs and / or community based health services
  • Your demonstrated experience in a developing country context and understanding of issues faced in provincial locations outside the main urban centre.
  • Your knowledge of and experience in developing countries’ government procurement and financial management procedures, policies and distribution
  • Demonstrated skills in teamwork to achieve organisational priorities and mentoring and coaching
  • Your relevant tertiary qualifications in Public Health, Nursing or related health discipline (plus accounting or business qualifications - an advantage.)
 
This position is part of the Pacific Technical Assistance Mechanism (PACTAM), which places highly-skilled deployees in the Pacific to assist local employers to meet their human resource needs and contribute to building capacity in the workplace. The allowances include:  AUD$80,000  p.a. plus housing allowance, relocation allowance, airfares and insurance.
