You
You have delegated responsibility for the development, implementation and evaluation of Psychosocial Support methods, tools and standards. You develop and coordinate specific Psychosocial Support projects and tasks. You support the Senior Advisor Psychosocial Support, and work with other colleagues in head office and country offices to improve quality programming, accountability and learning of the organisation.
War Child works with conflict-affected children and their environment to strengthen their psychosocial well-being, protection and access to quality education. Through programmes integrating Psychosocial Support, Protection and Education we can contribute to fulfilling the rights of (conflict-affected) children in an effective and empowering way. We aim to build and strengthen psychosocial services and systems using psychosocial methods, tools, guidelines and standards of the highest possible quality in order to ensure the best results for children.
You are member of the Quality Accountability and Learning (QAL) department, managed by the Head of department, who is also part of the Management Team of War Child. You report to the Senior Advisor Psychosocial Support, responsible for Psychosocial Support programming in QAL. The department’s overall objective is to improve the quality of War Child programmes (including adherence to international standards). QAL ensures that War Child is equipped to deliver high quality projects contributing to the fulfilment of children’s rights in (post) conflict settings.
Your challenge
You support improved adherence to the strategy, internal policies and (international) quality standards on Psychosocial Programming War Child is committed to. You support monitoring, evaluating and reporting on Psychosocial Support results to diverse stakeholders. You support development of War Child’s core interventions through testing, sharing and monitoring Psychosocial Support interventions, methods and tools. You provide technical advice on the implementation of and adherence to (international) quality Psychosocial Programming in War Child projects. You support colleagues from Field Operations and/or the Institutional Fundraising unit in the development of proposals in your expertise area. You support capacity development of Field Operations colleagues in Psychosocial Support programming and core interventions. You facilitate and support initiatives to encourage knowledge sharing, documentation and learning (between countries, countries and head office and in head office) in your expertise area.
Your profile
- You have a relevant academic background (e.g. Psychology, Pedagogy, (Global) Mental /Public health, Child development).
- You have at least three years working experience in conflict and/or post conflict setting.
- You have experience working in project development in combination with monitoring and evaluation.
- You have up to date knowledge of ‘best practices’ in psychosocial support in war affected areas and a solid understanding of the IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergencies.
- You have proven experience in writing manuals, tools, handbooks, guides and/or other (training) materials.
- You have excellent facilitation and training skills and a proven track record in developing, delivering and coordinating training/capacity development.
- You have a can-do mentality, you are result oriented and a team player. Work experience in a child rights focused organization is an added value.
- Understanding and experience in Child Protection and/or Education programming is an advantage.
- You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. French, Spanish and/or Arabic is an asset.
- You are flexible and prepared to travel regularly to War Child programme countries (4-6 times per year).
You are committed to invest at least three years in further developing this position. War Child offers a contract for one year with the intention to prolong.
