We are looking for a Fleet Management Accountant, to be responsible for the provision of accurate and timely accounting, taxation and reporting information and broad commercial support for Rio Tinto Marine’s (RTM) Fleet Management operations.
RTM exists to provide Rio Tinto with a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of marine transportation, global freight markets and the international maritime regulatory environment. It is a stand-alone business unit, which is responsible for managing, all Rio Tinto’s ocean freight and the Group's freight exposure in various shipping markets.

What the role entails
This position is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual seeking new challenges. Reporting to the Senior Management Accountant, you will be:
- Taking responsibility for the budgeting, ongoing forecasting and tracking against budget as well as accounting for RTM fleet of owned vessels
- Developing, documenting and implementing appropriate processes and controls across the fleet management area taking account of future addition of vessels
- Monitoring the vessel third party operators and providing support in development of third party operator budgets annually agreed between operator and RTM
- Maintaining vessel capital budgets and monitoring spend against the approved budgets and ensuring that all capital installment payments are made accurately and timely
- Posting appropriate accruals and other accounting adjustments to ensure accurate monthly accounting result and accounting for the entire RTM owned fleet
- Preparing the RTM owned vessels plan, quarterly re-forecasts and monthly mid-month forecasts
- Raising related invoices in relation to the owned vessels and ensuring that all appropriate invoices are raised on a timely basis
- Demonstrating and modelling strong team focus by delivering on agreed outcomes and adhering to RTM policies and procedures
What you will need for this role
To succeed in this exciting and challenging role, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting or Commerce or similar discipline
- A qualification or part-qualification as a Certified Accountant or equivalent
- Strong experience in accounting
- Understanding of accounting and tax concepts, particularly relating to the shipping industry
Knowledge of resource, shipping or outbound logistics industry will be desirable.
