Summary of Position
IREX seeks applicants for the position of Capacity-Building Officer for its Social Media | Social Action for Good Governance (SMSA) program. This program builds upon the experience and success of IREX’s work connecting youth-focused NGOs across the Middle East region with technology tools useful for advancing their work and increasing civic participation. SMSA for Good Governance is a pilot project designed to combine new technologies and traditional outreach tools in comprehensive good governance advocacy campaigns in Jordan.
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Capacity Building Officer will support active citizens and CSOs in Jordan to build on and improve their advocacy efforts. Specifically, the Capacity Building Officer will be responsible for providing program partners with continuous mentoring throughout the implementation of their grants. The Capacity Building Officer will assist organizations develop relationships with local government and private sector stakeholders, conduct community outreach, and implementing effective communication campaigns.
Candidates located in Jordan are strongly preferred. No relocation costs will be covered by IREX.
Summary of Responsibilities:
· Support coordination and implementation of program activities, including providing strategic guidance to CSO partners and playing an integral role in the monitoring, evaluation and reporting of program activities as well as ensuring that program deliverables are being met.
· Identify project partner needs and conduct relevant trainings
· Assist program partners in identifying and refining core advocacy messages and techniques
· Facilitate coalition-building among civil society partners and networking with government stakeholders.
· Identify and pursue opportunities to scale-up initiatives to other governorates
· Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Skills and Qualifications:
· University degree in relevant field
· Minimum of 3 years experience in working with international development, preferably working with local civil society organizations.
· Experience in mentoring, coaching, and skills transfer.
· Superior writing, editing and oral presentation skills, evidenced by professional experience and success
· Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact and cooperate effectively with partners and core IREX team
· Contextual understanding of the challenges and opportunities of strengthening advocacy skills of NGOs
· Strong organizational skills including ability to prioritize and multi-task
· Flexibility and enthusiasm for IREX programs
· Experience working in Jordan preferred
· Able to communicate in both English and Arabic
· Preferred experience working with civil society and government stakeholders in Jordan.
