Eastern Congo coordinator
Chemonics seeks an Eastern Congo coordinator for the anticipated 18-month USAID-funded Capacity Building for Responsible Minerals Trade Project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This position will be based in Goma, North Kivu Province. The project will strengthen the capacity of the DRC and regional institutions to transparently regulate and control trade in gold, tungsten, tin, and tantalum in the eastern DRC, and transform the region’s mineral wealth into economic development. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and produce high-quality assessments, analytical reports, field-based research, and activity implementation
- Ensure effective startup, implementation, and monitoring of certification and traceability activities in the eastern DRC
- Establish effective communication and coordination between USAID, government counterparts, international donors, and the private sector to promote responsible trade in minerals in the region
- Interact professionally with senior embassy, government, and USAID officials
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in mining, natural resource management, or related field required
- Minimum of five years of experience working in the mining sector
- Ability to interact with international donor agencies, host-country government and counterparts, and implementing partners
- Extensive experience and/or technical knowledge in designing, managing, and evaluating cross-sectoral development projects and activities
- Strong interpersonal, writing, and oral presentation skills
- Experience working in the DRC and/or familiarity with the local political, social, and cultural context strongly preferred
- Experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: artisanal and small-scale mining and related traceability schemes, mining sector reform, organizational capacity development, and resource governance
- USAID experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluency in English and French required
